Blue Angels Get the Finger as they Fly Over October 6 Federal Building Occupation

by Allie Mosca
As hundreds occupied space in front of the new Federal Building on October 6, the dreaded Blue Angels polluted the skies above SF. Speakers were forced to pause, and protesters showed their displeasure.

Those raising a fist or a finger in the air to vent their anger at Blue Angels flying over San Francisco on October 6th included two elderly "Raging Grannies".

Hundreds had gathered in the afternoon to protest the continuing wars, and the financial and environmental crises we find our country in. The display of militarism in the sky above was the ultimate irony. Sad faces watched the planes pollute our air.

The Blue Angels fly as part of the demonstration known as Fleet Week, an enormous waste of tax dollars in a time of economic depression. Business interests welcome the militarists with open arms because it generates tourism in the city.

As a City, San Francisco theoretically rejects war and embraces peace. Yet, the City still sponsors this event which glorifies militarism.
