Lack of Transparency and Potential Pressure From Employer In KPFA LSB Election?

by P. Revere
Should an Employee of a Current KPFA LSB Member Disclose Her Employment When She Runs for the LSB? Is there a potential for the employer to influence the vote of his employee?
Tanya Russell is running for the KPFA LSB on the "Save KPFA" slate. This slate is the rebirth of "Concerned Listeners", her boss Dan Siegel is a leader of Concerned Listeners. No where in her candidate statement or on the Save KPFA web site does she disclose her employment with the Siegel & Yee law firm. Transparency?

Will Dan Siegel have the ability to pressure, directly of indirectly, Ms. Russell, his employee, to vote as he suggests if she is elected to the KPFA LSB?

Does failing to disclose this relationship show disrespect for the KPFA voters? Is it contrary to the Pacifica Mission? What else are "Save KPFA" candidates failing to disclose?

A friend of mine once applied for a pretty modest job at a City vehicle maintentance yard in Chicago .
He did great on the basic civil service test , had the skills for the job in question but didn't get the job .
He happened to learn who did get the position . He was suprised because he remembered the guy from the test . He clearly remembered him because the dude was stoned and finally tore up the test and staggered out . But yet he was hired !
It turns out that the pothead had three things going for him that my friend didn't :
1. He was a Polish-American as was the main Human resources boss.
2. He had walked precients both for a prominent City official and also a Congressional candidate .
3. So both recommended him .
My friend eventually confronted the HR Boss at a bar and asked him what the hell was going on ?
The boss said calm down, bought him another drink , and said '' No one knows you and No one sent you ! Ya Gotta know somebody kid ! ''
So back to KPFA/Pacifica . It sure helps as a candidate if you ''know '' someone. preferrably a brother or Husband, wife or at least a ''friend with benefits '' already on the board . And according to many reports over the years by pissed off staffers all the above also plays a big role in who gets hired as a paid staffer, and if hired how many hours you get etc.
Maybe we should go all the way with this patronage thing . Ex Illinois Gov '' Blago '' 's legal problems have eased for a while . Perhaps he would be interested in relocating out here and becoming GM !
After all we ''have a F---king Golden thing here '' so who better than Blago to show us how it's really done Chicago style .

Why Not do it ''Chicago style '' ? After all the network is worth hundreds of millions . That is ''fucking golden ''. If we are going to be corrupt why go half way ?
All joking aside what exaclty does Ms Russell do at Siegel and Yee ? Thanks for that expose .

You're talking about disclosure and yet you aren't using your real name on your post.

Tanya Russell is an elderly African-American attorney who represents plaintiffs in employment discrimination cases for Dan Siegel's law firm, Siegel and Yee. Concerned Listeners a.k.a Save KPFA is also running in this election a brother/sister team, Don and Susan Goldmacher, a brother to one of the incumbents Conn Hallinan (landlord Matthew Hallinan) and of course Ms. Russell, who is an attorney employed at Dan Siegel's firm. Concerned Listeners a.k.a Save KPFA also came up with the marital partners Warren Mar and Susan McDonough, who ran in 2007 on the Concerned Listeners slate without disclosing their status as husband and wife. They are not running for a 2nd term.

The only ICR family or employment relationship is the candidacy this year of Kate Tanaka, whose husband Akio Tanaka was elected to his second term last year.
Let's not forget that good old Susan and Warren (the married couple) had a former employee who they also brought on the board. So Let's see, that makes a husband and wife and employee, two brothers, a brother and sister, the employee of a present board member? That all?

So, this is just like a board in corporate America. What's the problem? Aren't y'all Americans?

Then they stole the name of a group that fought hard to bring democracy to the station and board. That was one they didn't participate in. So stealing a brand, what's the problem? Isn't it what corporate America does? Ain't you an American?

So Concerned Listeners now aka Save KPFA hired a General Manager who went thru a million bucks of cash reserve in a year and a half? Ya got a problem with that? So then she got a $375,000 donation and left it sitting in her desk drawer but reported it deposited in a specific bank account instead? Ya got a problem with that, bud? That's how we do things in corporate America and media is part of those corporations.

Oh . . . KPFA is community media . . . . it is supposed to do things differently . . . oops, guess Concerned Listeners aka Save KPFA forgot . . . well, they are all so damned old you got to give them some slack . . . Hey, CLrs, don't forget to deposit your social security checks and let me know if you need some help picking up meds. Oh, that's why some of their employees miss board meetings? They're running errand for the old geezers?
