An Illustrated Tribute to Howard Zinn
An Illustrated Tribute to Howard Zinn by a local artist and illustrator
Last night, one of my heroes
died at the age of 87. Howard Zinn, historian and shipyard worker,
civil rights activist and World War II bombardier, and author of “A
People’s History of the United States,” a book that inspired a
generation to rethink American history. Many of us were deeply touched
by his intelligence, compassion, and humor.
I had the honor of creating an illustrated account of one of his often-told stories, a New York anti-war march and police riot that turned him into a life-long radical. I had the pleasure of giving it to him in person at a talk in Boston a few years ago.
