Oakland is on the verge of adopting one of the strongest models of police oversight, with the consensus of community groups, the mayor, and the city council, but significant opposition remains.
City Administrator Dan Lindheim is using underhanded tactics to kill the plan which would take all civilian complaints away from OPD Internal Affairs and move them to the Oakland Citizens' Police Review Board. The plan is the only way for police oversight to truly have integrity and credibility. Stand up on Tuesday, June 23rd and tell the Public Safety Committee that we need real civilian oversight now. ----------------------------------------- More info about recent developments on Indybay: http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2009/06/18/18602511.php
