2009 marks the 75th anniversary of "The Big Strike," when longshore workers up and down the west coast shut down the ports for more than two months, to be joined in San Francisco by dozens of other unions for a General Strike in the summer of 1934. The General Strike led to a surge in unionization and and an important milestone in the fight for racial equality. All this despite an economic depression.

Join us for a discussion of the relevance of this struggle for the new fights we face today!

Saturday, May 9th at 6:00pm
Plumbers Hall
1621 Market Street @ Gough Street
San Francisco, CA

Featured Speakers:

Clarence Thomas, former Secretary Treasurer of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 10 (ILWU)
