Police Arrest Arcata City Council Candidate/Activist
University police officers at Humboldt State University arrest Geronimo Garcia while campaigning after complaints from "administrative offices."
Well-known activist and bicycling advocate Geronimio Garcia was again arrested by police in Arcata. This time on Humboldt State University campus while campaigning for his bid for a position on the Arcata Shitty Council. For some reason, it seems that the police just don't like this outspoken critic of Bush jr.'s illegal wars of aggression overseas and local unconstitutional "anti-camping" laws that target homeless people. He has been previously arrested at protests and once after a disagreement about the statue of ex-president and imperialist mass-murderer William McKinley that stands ignominiously on the Arcata plaza. The day after Geronimo's arrest, he could be found on the plaza sharing his medical records stemming from the incident.A biased report can be found in the Arcata Eye (September 23), written by Kevin Hoover, who is known for lambasting homeless people and traveling people in his "newspaper."

you say you "like" geronimo, yet you always bring up incidents in which are humiliating to him, including one in which he involuntarily defecated while in police custody, which from my understanding first happened due to being beaten by the police. Have you asked him about that, or are you just trying to publicly humiliate him by repeatedly publicizing that which you have no understanding of?
true, i do not like hearing about geronimo being arrested, and i also don't like your bigoted brand of "reporting."

That was supposed to be unbiased? Where you present at the time of Geronimo's arrest? Was it not appropriate for the police to enforce a court order?
The fact that judges determine a person to be a danger or a nuisance so great as to not have a continued right to be in a place of fairly public nature indicates that the person so restrained violated the rights of others in a manner that broke the laws of the agreed upon social contract.
Or are all the judges biased against Geronimo and homeless persons as well? (A word of caution: too much complaining that everyone is biased against ones point of view makes one seem to be the one who is out of touch with reality. It is called paranoia, and it weakens ones position in the eyes of the rational, as well as making one look like a nutcase.)
Geronimo consistently acts in a manner that makes his presence undesirable. HSU is not intended to be Geronimo's forum. It is meant to be a place where academic studies occur and our young adults can focus on those studies unhampered and undisturbed by outside disturbances.
The law states that a person without lawful business on the grounds of a state university or community college is trespassing. Geronimo has no more business on the campus than I. And I have no business being there, what so ever. What did

Both Hoover and you, Roland, are focusing your attention and criticism on Geronimo, and not on the important issues that he tries so hard to bring to the attention of the public, often to his own detriment.
Your comment, Roland, satirically asking if all judges are biased against homeless people, makes me wonder if you've done any investigation into the various court cases that have shown the systematic violation of the rights of homeless people by law enforcement all around the country, including Arcata. See news story at:

Th indbay article does not address whether or not Geronimo should have been arrested, and does not present any facts that are contestable. The only difference is that the indybay article leaves out the mockery that is present in hoover's article.

Why the local APD and HSU police do not like Geronimo may come from his tireless advocacy for the houseless population of Arcata who find themselves subjected to outrageous "no camping" and "no stopping with dogs while in transit" city codes that are obviously discriminatory of their housless status. For all the good qualities of the Arcata region, they lose out on human and civil rights when in comes to their treatment of the houseless population. Personally i've left Arcata because being there without housing just plain sucks, period. Anyone who can put up with the abuses of APD for a prolonged period of time like Geronimo gets my absentee vote for city council.
Not everyone is comfortable with Geronimo's style, though that is the point, he is asking for people to leave their comfort zones and try to place themselves in the position of the housless population.
As far as "pooing" and going to the bathroom is concerned, i've offered some houseless people food at night only to be turned down because "then they would have to go to the bathroom" and so many stores and places of business do not allow people to use their restrooms without a purchase! This is like slow starvation where houseless people may avoid eating at night to avoid having to find a restroom when none are offered.
Nobody likes to crap in their pants, regardless of our housing situation. The choice for many without housing is either to go to the bathroom when the library is open or wait, and if that isn't possible, then dig a hole in the ground and bury our crap where nobody will find it or step in it(hopefully). This is far from ideal, though that is the reality of those without 24/7 access to flush toilets or nasty port-a-potties. Like we're going to leave our campsites in the hills to wander way down to the port-a-potty, only to then be harassed by the police for being downtown in the middle of the night?
After being beaten by the police after the McKinley statue incident, Geronimo may have lost control of his bowels. This is a normal occurrence for victims of beatings and tells me more about the problems stemming from APD police brutality against the housless population than any personal character flaw of Geronimo's because of this accident.
This incident should be brought up not to make fun of Geronimo, but to point out the flaws of the "houseless bathroom policy" and police interactions with activists and housless residents of the greater Arcata region.

You have repeatedly disrespected the Arcata community, in particular the radical Arcata community, who yes, Mr Hoover, do happen to occasionally be house less. Your photographer disrespected a NO photography consensus laid out by the womyn of the night when 'Take Back the Night' marchers made it to the plaza. This consensus was for the protection of the survivors participating in the group's march and was for all media. You then took that slip of paper that stated those guidelines and printed an outrageous article through your mouthpiece 'The Arcata Eye'. It referred to the womyn of the night as a fascist organization who denies the media the right to cover stories.
Also your coverage of the 'Kid in the Woods' was at times BLATANT LIES.
Mr Hoover, shut the fuck up. You are no journalist, you are no reporter, your an old fart with subscriptions from other old liberal farts, and metal head scenesters whom frequent the Alibi.
Fuck you.
