Apartment Investment and Management Company (AIMCO) bombards renters with Asbestos.

by Francisco Da Costa
AIMCO controls over 604 housing units and has in recent months started rehabilitating units with their jurisdiction at Hunters Point. In recent months many homes closer to Ingalls and Oakdale when had notices posted on the homes. The notice reveal that the residents have been exposed to Asbestos. Close by the residents were already exposed to Asbestos from the activities linked to Parcel A. In this case it is residential Asbestos that is adding to the state of affairs.
Apartment Investment and Management Company (AIMCO) has a track record of adversely impacting residents at Hunters Point and the housing it controls.

Already, we have had many complaints from the residents about AIMCO and how they have been treating the residents.

Some years ago AIMCO was fined $3 millions dollars by the City for adversely impacting the resident living in the housing units at Hunters Point.

Residents have been given 6 days notices to move to some other area - in order to rehabilitate their homes.

Others, have been moved and have waited for months to move back into their apartments.

Physically Challenged residents have suffered the most.

Now, we hear besides some other complaints that the residents have been exposed to Asbestos.
We also hear that workers have been exposed to Asbestos for months on end.

Many of the workers are Union workers and CityBuild has been playing a role with these projects and should demand some quality OSHA standards.

Consultants from the area that work for AIMCO and others that live outside the area have encouraged AIMCO to go forward with the $83 million State Bond to rehabilitated these units - some 604 units controlled by AIMCO.

However, these consultants are NOT paying attention to the workers who are paid less even though they are UNION.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laws and regulations have not been followed.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management should look into this nonsense.

So should the SF General Hospital and the Environmental Division.

Now is the time for Arnold Townsend, Keith Jackson, Linda Richardson, Gary Banks and others to work for the community and do the right thing.

The $50,000 a year consultant fees should also incorporate some responsibility to the Bayview community especially by those that live outside the community - but come here to mess with the community.

AIMCO has failed in its responsibility before and it is doing it again.

The contractor is from OHIO and using California State Bonds to break many local and State laws.

What does Mayor Gavin Newsom, the Mayor's Office of Housing, others have to say about this prevailing nonsense.

What has Sophie Maxwell to say about this nonsense. Sophie Maxwell was quick to bring the Bond issue linked with AIMCO before the Full Board with sending it to committee. Then, we sent it to Committee - the money was given - even though we warned the Board of Supervisors.

Now, see for yourselves what is happening to our residents and to our workers because AIMCO has used contractors from outside - from OHIO to come into our community and screw our community again and again.
