A PARTY TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE G.I. RIGHTS HOTLINE AND COUNTER RECRUITMENT WORK
Saturday, June 16, 2007
4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
2510 Tassajara Avenue, El Cerrito*
the home of Linda Novick and Seth Clark
Come hear Pablo Paredes talk about how he was recruited into the Navy, how and why he became a conscientious objector, why he refused to board a ship that would take Marines to Iraq, his court martial and sentence, and why he has marched 241 miles and spoken at over 200 high schools since his discharge.
Pablo is now working on a fellowship at the San Francisco office of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), advising volunteers for the G.I. Rights Hotline, handling calls, doing counter-recruitment work in schools and colleges and designing an amazing “wiki” to help counselors locate resources quickly.
This party is to help fund Pablo’s fellowship during the next four months and to help establish a new East Bay location for the G.I. Rights Hotline.
Refreshments, conversation, raffle. Short videos, including “Before You Enlist”.
RSVP to Dorothy Callison, dorothyandpaul@phch.org or 925-681-2676. If you plan to bring children, please let us know their ages so we can arrange child care.
