Parrot feedings continue dispite ban

by nabrudigam
Group steadfastly refuses to stop feeding parrots dispite ban.
Certain members of the Yahoo group that call themselves “the wild parrot feeders” continue to feed the parrots in S.F. in defiance of the new ban against feeding them that was passed by the S.F. Board of Supervisors on May 22nd. One of the members of the group is shown in Doug Comstock’s video on “You tube” feeding the birds. Her written comments steadfastly support Mr. Comstock’s message against the ban.

Mr. Comstock is certainly entitled to his opinion and entitled to make his video. It is odd however, that certain members of the “wild parrot feeders” Yahoo group, who claim to have the best interest of the parrots at heart and who previously claimed they had nothing to do with the video, now embrace it.

In fact, the very reason the ban was necessary is because of the few stubborn members of the “wild parrot feeders” Yahoo group who continued to feed the birds after they were asked politely to stop the daily feeding frenzies, which are seen as dangerous to the birds.

The sad part is that these people are making the owner of the “wild parrot feeders” Yahoo group, as well as other members who no longer feed the birds, look bad. The owner of the Yahoo group (as well as some other members) had stopped feeding the birds even before the ban passed so it’s too bad that the people who call themselves group owner Jeff’s friend continue the irresponsible behavior of feeding the birds and giving him and his group a bad name. Maybe they’re not really his friends. They certainly are not friends of the parrots.

Newsflash! The Ban is not in effect yet! How do you know anyone is still feeding the birds nancy?

Sorry, my bad. So when it comes into effect you'll stop feeding? Are you prepared to swear to that? I'll be happy to post it on my blog that you will not feed a single parrot once the ban is in effect.

My blog is at your disposal as well as anyone else who wants to swear they will not feed a single parrot once the ban is in effect.

On the other hand, why not stop now since the ban is inevitable? Why not wean the birds off the feedings slowly while you can instead of waiting until the ban is in effect to suddenly rip the feedings from them all at once leaving them confused?

Some members on your Yahoo group have already said they ignore ordinances they do not agree with. Some have said it will not be enforced, inferring that they will continue to feed. Is that your intention also? State your position and I will post it on my blog. I am at your disposal.

On 11/6/07 SF Board of Sups meeting; Ordinance 071540 was proposed to ban the feeding of all birds and other wildlife in any park presented from the Mayor.

If this goes in effect, it will be 30 days in jail and $1,000 fine to give a duck a piece of bread.
