From Apartheid Walls to Security Fences: Barriers to Justice

In the 80's and 90's, the Berlin Wall seemed like a permanent feature
of the European landscape. But in November of 1989, the Berlin Wall
came down.

Come hear about the grassroots struggles to bring down two modern
walls—Israel's wall in Palestine and the USA's wall on the Mexico
border – and discuss how these struggles are linked and are important
parts of the broader struggle against war and imperialism and for
global justice.

Presented by the Heads Up Collective.

Speakers:

Reem Assil is a Palestinian Activist in the Bay Area. She is the
Program and Training Coordinator at the Center for Third World
Organizing, a racial-justice organization led by people of color whose
mission is to achieve economic and social justice.

José Palafox teaches in the Latin American and Latino Studies
Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He will be
speaking from his years of research on the U.S.-Mexico Border and
participation in social movements against the border.

Rahula Janowski is a mother and an organizer with the Heads Up Collective.

Moderated by Heba Nimr

The Heads Up Collective is a white anti-racist, anti-imperialist
project. We are rooted in the global justice and anti-war movements.

We work from the foundation that all people have the right to housing,
food, health care, meaningful work, and healthy communities. In short,
we believe in the need for revolutionary change and the liberation of
all people from the systems of white supremacy, patriarchy,
capitalism, heterosexism, the gender binary system, and imperialism.
