Sacramento for Democracy and Progressive Democrats of America Present
Norman Solomon & Cindy Sheehan

Wed April 4    7 pm
Coloma Center   4623 T St.
Sacramento, CA

Meeting the Historic Challenge:
War, Peace and the 2007 California Democratic Convention

As part of PDA’s “Organize, Mobilize and Deliver the Progressive Vote” Tour, Norman’s appearance will kick-off barnstorming of the state, leading up to the California Democratic Party Convention in San Diego, on April 27 - 29, and culminating in what is sure to be memorable events sponsored by PDA and others.

Author Norman Solomon ("War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death") will be the guest speaker at Sacramento for Democracy’s April meeting. Norman is a nationally syndicated columnist on media and politics and a newly elected delegate to the State Democratic Party from the 6th Assembly District. He last spoke to us at the "Out Of Iraq Forum" that was held in Sacramento on January 7, 2006 (with Cindy Sheehan, Sean Penn, David Dionisi, Charlie Brown & Bill Durston).

And it’s like Homecoming when Cindy comes to town!
Cindy Sheehan is the mother of Spc. Casey Sheehan who was killed in Bush’s war of terror on 04/04/04. She is the co-founder and president of Gold Star Families for Peace and The Camp Casey Peace Institute. Author (“Peace Mom: A Mother's Journey Through Heartache to Activism”) and revered hell raiser for the Peace Movement, Cindy is also on the National Advisory Panel for PDA. We welcome our homegirl with love and pride!

For more information, go to  http://sacramentofordemocracy.org/?q=node/view/5216

SFD’s meeting will take place at the Coloma Center Auditorium
4623 T St.

We'll also show a sneak preview of the documentary film "War Made Easy" -- based on Norman Solomon’s book. The Los Angeles Times called the book "brutally persuasive" and "a must-read for those who would like greater context with their bitter morning coffee, or to arm themselves for the debates about Iraq that are still to come."

As April 22nd is Earth Day, we will learn how to make our SfD meetings Carbon Neutral and we'll talk about the upcoming Earth Day event at CSUS, among other things.

We hope to see you there!

Our heroes, who have given their lives for this country, died for freedom and for making this world a better place will have died in vain; if the American dream of self-government free of tyranny and big government oppression dies.

Many of today's leaders seem to have minds like concrete; thoroughly mixed up and permanently set. Blinded by the light of billions in tax and lobby money; bleeding leaders, thus corrupted, are blithely unconscious of the societal harm their policies cause. Jiminey Cricket, where is their conscience?

Throughout history, big government has caused more harm than good; often hiding tyranny under the guise of good intentions. Our founders knew big government would always mean a gang of evildoers. As Mark Twain put it:
"Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves
it."

We, the people, have little say in the running of this country. We have
turned over the reins to a few cold-hearted, power-mad evildoers with
little or no ethics, who in a careless bloodletting, feeding frenzy worship
nothing more than the almighty dollar.

War creates a booming economy for some on the suffering of many. War is a
recipe for disaster. The Iraq war and drug war are smokescreens for
corruption but what is that smell?!

Our foreign policy is senseless. We try to dictate democracy! We have
abandoned our Constitution and the founder's ideal of nonintervention.

Scandals about big-bully police policies abound! Reminds you of alcohol
prohibition; again official lawlessness rules us!

Prisons propagate violence, sexual abuse and crime. Placing non-violent
drug users in this "breeding ground" is policy bordering on insanity or
reefer madness! The tobacco, alcohol and pharmaceutical gangs deal drugs
that kill many more annually than all illicit drugs.
http://www.drugwarfacts.org/causes.htm We tolerate their salesmen!

Harassing the sick and dying over their medicinal use is the most
un-American activity I can think of!

Big government plays on our fears to make us more accepting of their waste
of our precious lives and resources. Flushing $50 billion per year down the
drug war drain failed to staunch the flow of black market drugs and made out
teens more aware and curious about them!

A study published in The Lancet (UK), "A RATIONAL SCALE TO ASSESS THE
HARM OF DRUGS," recommends science-based reclassification of drugs.

Leaders responsible for current quagmire will one-day answer to a higher
power for their crimes against humanity. It's time to end the terror by
changing our intrusive, big-bully policies, both foreign and domestic. The
monetary and environmental costs are staggering and the human suffering
unconscionable.

Bring our troops home; stop the Iraq war! Restore justice in America;
construct science based drug policies about saving and rehabilitating
instead of ruining lives. Warriors can get their adrenalin rush increasing
public safety; chasing murderers and violent sexual predators.

Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Colleen Minter (McCool)

Restore justice in America; construct science based drug policies about
saving and rehabilitating instead of ruining lives. Support for the federal
war on drugs is inconsistent with support for individual freedom,
constitutional government and the teachings of Jesus.
