California Injured Workers including Safeway Injured Workers Call For Removal of
Department Of Insurance Fraud Assessment Commission Chair William Zachry

Press Conference On Fraud and Conflict Of Interest At
Department of Insurance Fraud Assessment Commission
March 1, 2007 9:15 AM
9342 Tech Center Drive, Suite 100
Sacramento, California 95826

The California Coalition For Workers Memorial Day, Californians Injured At Work, BEST and injured Safeway workers will be calling for the resignation of Department of Insurance Fraud Assessment Chair William Zachry.
At last year's June Fraud Assessment Commission Meeting in June of 2006, injured Safeway workers and other injured workers presented testimony about fraud by insurance companies and self insured employers such as Safeway Inc.
The FAC Chairman William Zachry who also is Vice President of Risk Management For Safeway Inc. has refused to investigate charges of fraud by Safeway Inc. and other insurance companies and in fact as a result of his position position at Safeway Inc. he has a clear conflict of interest since his own company is being charged with refusing to pay medical costs of injured Safeway workers and instead has encouraged these workers to go on SSI and to other public agencies to get their medical costs taken care of. This massive cost shifting by Safeway Inc. and other insurance companies is costing the public hundreds of millions of dollars.
The organizations calling the press conference will also submit documentation about meetings with State insurance investigators and their statements by them that they do not investigate fraud by insurance companies.
