Practical Activism Conference
Saturday, October 28, 2006

Colleges Nine and Ten Multipurpose Room
University of California, Santa Cruz
Practical Activism is a day-long conference offering interactive workshops on a wide range of social justice issues, as well as keynote presentations, music, arts, hands-on activism sessions, organization tables and resources. Practical Activism is a remarkable collaboration between students, staff and community, and we hope to see you there. There is no cost for this event, and no advance registration is required.
This year's special guests and keynotes include Mireya Gomez, community activist and current candidate for Watsonville City Council; Ryan Coonerty, UC Santa Cruz lecturer and Member of the Santa Cruz City Council; Assemblymember John Laird; Spoken Word Troupe Po Poets and the Welfare QUEENS; and many others. Workshop presenters include student activists and faculty members as well as campus and community leaders from around the Bay Area.

Mixed Identity in a Racialized Society
Hip Hop and Activism
UC Involvement with Nuclear Energy
Globalization in Latin America

Direct Action Organizing Techniques

12:00 to 12:40 PM Opening Session and Keynote
12:50 to 1:50 PM and
2:00 to 3:00 PM Concurrent Workshop Sessions
3:00 to 3:30 PM Refreshments, Activist Activities, Organization and Resource Tables
3:30 to 4:00 PM Closing Keynote
4:00 to 5:00 PM Activist Activities, Organization and Resource Tabling continue
Also throughout the day: displays, music, refreshments, and more.
Limited parking will be available on site (purchase permits for 2$, first come first served), or park nearby in open lots (as posted). Public transportation and car-pooling highly recommended.
