 Conference\nSaturday, October 28, 2006\n11:00 AM to 5:00 PM (see schedule 
 below)\non-site registration starts at 10:45 AM\nColleges Nine and Ten 
 Multipurpose Room\nUniversity of California, Santa Cruz\n\nPractical 
 Activism is a day-long conference offering interactive workshops on a wide 
 range of social justice issues, as well as keynote presentations, music, 
 arts, hands-on activism sessions, organization tables and resources.  
 Practical Activism is a remarkable collaboration between students, staff 
 and community, and we hope to see you there.  There is no cost for this 
 event, and no advance registration is required.\n\nThis year's special 
 guests and keynotes include Mireya Gomez, community activist and current 
 candidate for Watsonville City Council; Ryan Coonerty, UC Santa Cruz 
 lecturer and Member of the Santa Cruz City Council; Assemblymember John 
 Laird; Spoken Word Troupe Po Poets and the Welfare QUEENS; and many others. 
  Workshop presenters include student activists and faculty members as well 
 as campus and community leaders from around the Bay Area.\n\nWorkshop 
 topics include:\nActivism and Literature\nThe Death Penalty: International 
 Perspectives\nMixed Identity in a Racialized Society\nHip Hop and 
 Activism\nUC Involvement with Nuclear Energy\nGlobalization in Latin 
 America\nEducation Inequity\nProstitution and Sex-Trafficking in 
 California\nImmigration: Causes and Effects\nDirect Action Organizing 
 Techniques\n\nSchedule for the day:\n10:45 to 11:45 AM  Registration,
