Interim victory on Frederick Street Park!
Planning Commission denies project--more to come!
Hi folks,
The community turn out at the Planning Commission hearing on October 5th was fantastic and we turned in more than 600 signatures on our petition. And the Commission voted to deny the project 4 to 3! It comes to the City Council on December 12. Thanks for all your support!
The Commission included four concerns in their decision: 1. ADUs need to be on standard 5000 sq. ft. or more lots. 2. The treatment of the public utility easement needs clarification. 3. The townhouses are incompatible in our R-1-5 district. 4. The density is too high.
We're now working on the December 12 Council meeting and toward expanding the park!
Staying in the loop:
- If you are in or near the Seabright area you can join Seabright Neighbors
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/seabrightneighbors)
- If you want to be in on planning discussions, let me know and I'll add you to that list.
All best,
Skip

Developers are moving forward with a plan for 170 Frederick St., current site of Kingdom Hall, to build a high density, 3-story project that that would fundamentally alter the park and neighborhood.

keep fighting the good fight, my friend....
On your last post about this issue, Skip, a few of us asked you some very reasonable questions, which have yet to be answered. I'm all for the environment, keeping Santa Cruz weird, and keeping a close watch on development, but we need to recognize the fact that we need more affordable housing in Santa Cruz. We have too many 'Not In My Backyard' people that are preventing local working folks, like me, from ever having the possibility of finding some place reasonable to live.
What are your main concerns about the Frederick St. Park development? Is it going to harm the environment? How? What concerns you about high-density homes in your area? Afraid it won't be just privileged folks living around you anymore?
Aren't there ways to protect the environment, keep Santa Cruz weird, and ensure that working families have affordable housing?
