This 8th annual multidisciplinary arts festival presents the work of over 100 emerging Asian Pacific American artists living and/or working in the San Francisco Bay Area. This evocative journey through family sagas, mythology, history, and incisive explorations of art?s potential to change theworld, features an array of literary readings, music, films, comedy, readings, performance and parties.
Tonight's opening night ($5, 6-9pm, 180 Capp) features Kathy Aoki. Wed. Sept. 20 includes performance and films (8pm, Intersection for the Arts, 446 Valencia). Thur. Sept. 21, (The LAB, 2948 16th St./Capp) offers music, literary readings and performance, including Ledoh Baisang. Known for grounded physicality and fluid expressiveness, Roman's latest multi-dimensional, site-specific dance piece, "Blue Floor Reflections," will make unrestricted use of the space, turning it into a multi-tiered playground for the company's 10 multi-disciplined, mesmerizing dancers. Set to the lights, video, and sound designs of acclaimed lighting designer and DJ Clyde Sheets and cellist & composer Alex Kelly, Roman and her dancers utilize the risers, I-beams, banisters, stairs, roofs, walls, doorways, windows, balconies, and stage as they consume the space's raw elements with a movement vocabulary that remains true and honest to the building's architecture. Audience members can examine movement from different angles and levels, to experience a different point of view and to appreciate dance happening on several levels simultaneously.
