Weapons Inspection Team Dismantles the Bomb

by ~Bradley (bradley [at] riseup.net)
On August 6th, the Santa Cruz Weapons Inspection Team (SCWIT) dismantled a Trident II D5 nuclear submarine missile during a skit on the Pacific Garden Mall to mark the 61st anniversary of the U.S. nuclear bombing of Hiroshima. A 4,400 acre Lockheed Martin facility at the end of Empire Grade in Bonny Doon manufactures and tests Contained Detonating Fuses (CDFs) for the Trident II D5 nuclear submarine missile. This is the third year that SCWIT has organized activities commemorating the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, on August 6th and 9th, 1945.

Dismantling the Bomb/Constructing Peace expressed sorrow for the full spectrum of victims of the nuclear weapons industry - workers exposed to the hazards of producing weapons, communities that suffer environmental degradation from their production, military personnel who are poisoned by their use, and the human and other living beings who are targeted by such weapons.

The political theatre skit honored Japanese women, men, and children whose lives and the lives of successive generations were shattered 61 years ago. This skit collectively imagines and calls for alternatives to the nuclear weapons industry that convert the science of nuclear destruction into a science of life-sustaining industries and renewable energy.

Close, but not quite "dismantle" as much as "shove it in a bucket".

"Close, but not quite "dismantle" as much as "shove it in a bucket"."

The "bomb" was successfully dismantled. Ask someone who was there. Don't make assumptions based off what you do not see in the photos above. These are selected photos from the event, not a video of the entire skit.

The fact is that the U.S. is the king of WMD's and their "interventions" around the world have been about protecting corporate interests, always wrapped in the flag, using words like "democracy".
