Chronicling SF's most famous Dyke-Punk rock band, Tribe 8.
The film captures the intense energy of live performances, as well as candid moments of band members' lives at work and on the road, and the controversy at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival that landed them in a quagmire of protest and praise from a fiercely divided crowd. It also captures the truly funny and warm people behind the music and the politics.
The on-stage antics of blow-jobs, sadomasochistic acts and mock castrations are not about shocking the audience for shock's sake, but can be understood on a deeper level through the band members' personal disclosures. The film reveals how the humor and physicality of their controversial performances give these
five individuals the peace to experience the rapture of being alive.

screwup:
BDSM for trannies, genderqueers and their friends, presents...
Disabilities and Kink!
facilitated by Jen & Bequi.
Bequi and Jen are hosting a discussion on BDSM with disabilities.
We will be talking about ways to modify, or rethink play to work with disabled bodies using body positioning and restraints, toys, communication, and more. We will discuss and/or demonstrate ways to play from top or bottom without injuring ourselves in the process.
Come ready to share your experiences and learn from the experiences of others.
Let's try to answer from our own experiences all those embarassing questions we've been afraid to ask about playing with a person with a disability. This will be a great discussion for anyone who has an injury or disability, who plays with someone who does, or who simply wants to learn more about disability in the kink community.
screwup is for trannies, genderqueers, and our friends. This event is open to all genders and will be held in Room 22 at the New College of California. Folks sometimes go out for coffee or food afterwards, so come prepared... it's lots of fun.
$0-5 donation will be accepted to cover the cost of supplies and flyers. No one turned away. The New College of California is wheelchair accessible and has gender-neutral bathrooms!
Please contact screwup [at] screwup.info if you'd like us to arrange for an ASL interpreter, to get involved, make suggestions or with any other requests.
Directions to the New College of California: The MUNI BUS LINES 14, 22, 26, 33, and 49 all run within a few blocks of the New College of California many run within 1 block. Also, BART runs within 3 blocks (exit at 16th and Mission Streets in SF).

SAN FRANCISCO
Court arguments begin on same-sex marriage
Panel to decide constitutionality of state's ban
Bob Egelko, Chronicle Staff Writer
Tuesday, July 11, 2006
" A state appeals court, that will decide whether California's ban on same-sex marriage is constitutional, focused Monday on whether preserving the historic definition of marriage and promoting child-rearing by fathers and mothers are legitimate reasons for upholding the law.
Lawyers for the state and two conservative organizations, appearing before a three-judge Court of Appeal panel in San Francisco, agreed that California's definition of marriage as the union of a man and a woman is constitutional and that a judge's March 2005 ruling to the contrary should be overturned.
But they gave sharply contrasting arguments to a court that also seemed divided.
The state "is simply maintaining the definition of marriage as it has always been,'' said Deputy Attorney General Christopher Krueger. At the same time, he said, California is "committed to providing equal rights and benefits to same-sex couples'' by granting registered domestic partners most of the same rights available to spouses under state law.
Because California law considers gay and straight parents to be equal, Krueger said, the state does not contend that protecting children is a rationale for denying marriage to same-sex couples. That rationale was cited by New York's highest court last week in upholding that state's ban on same-sex marriages. [....] "
...
[ Note by TBL: The laws and constutions of NY and California differ. Since same-sex couples are seeking rights under STATE constitutions (NOT under the U.S. federal constitution), court decisions will vary from state to state -- even between two states which have similar political climates.
Please read Egelko's objective story
carefully, in full, at
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/07/11/BAGO8JT3GG1.DTL ]
[ We can expect an appellate decision by October;
which will then be appealed to the Calif. Supreme Court.
Fundis are again talking about an initiative petition to amend Cal's state constitution. But they apparently won't be allowed to place it on the ballot until Republican Party leaders decide the time is right -- that is, when the amendment would help major Republican candidates more than it hurts them.
That's probably why the amendment didn't get onto the Cal. ballot in November 2006, when it might have harmed "moderate" Gov. Schwarzenegger, who seeks votes from Democrats and independents. He won't be running in 2008. ( Since Arnie CANNOT run for Prez or Veep, his next electoral race [ if any ] would probably be for U.S. Senate in 2010, seeking to replace Barbara Boxer. Or he could serve in the federal Cabinet under the next Prez; or retire from politics, etc.)
So, will we see a Cal hate amendment on the November 2008 presidential ballot? This may depend on whom the GOP nominates for U.S. President. For a "moderate" nominee, the amendment might be a net liability; for an extreme right-winger, it could be a net asset. ]
