STRIKE AVERTED, BUT SCHOOLS STILL CLOSED TOMORROW!!!

by via Jean Quan's email list
Just minutes ago the Oakland Education Association reps confirmed that they have reached a settlement and while teachers will be going to work tomorrow, it is still a non-student day ....because the district cannot assure that everyone will get the word and they cannot guarantee safe staffing levels. An extra day will probably be added at the end of the school year.

STRIKE AVERTED, BUT SCHOOLS STILL CLOSED TOMORROW!!!

This means the Parks & Rec Centers will still offer the programs below for parents who need a place for their children tomorrow.
Council President DeLaFuente and I asked the Mayor and City Administrator Edgerly this afternoon to open as many recreation centers as possible to help parents. We want to thank them and especially Park & Recreation Director Audree Taylor-Jones and her staff, who have been scrambling all afternoon and evening to open as many Park & Centers tomorrow as possible.

At the locations below highlighted in bold print....We will be offering our "School's Out / Rec's In!" program, run by OPR to meet the needs of parents and students within OUSD who are out during school holidays. Kids have the opportunity to participate in activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, field trips, etc. The program normally costs $35 per day or$100 per week.

TOMORROW THE PROGRAM IS FREE.

There may be limited spaces at some locations, we will operate the program on a first come basis. Parents should be prepared to fill out the registration and contact information when they come.
