Protest Against Senator Hillary Clinton's Continuing Support of the War in Iraq
by CODEPINK (codepinkbayarea [at] riseup.net)

In a recent fundraising letter for her upcoming senatorial re-election campaign Hillary Clinton claims: "Part of my job is being a good listener...." She goes on to describe all the good listening she does in her job as our United States Senator and then states, "Now I'd like to listen to you." Included with the fundraising appeal is a three-page 2005 Critical National Issues Survey that covers a broad range of political issues---but never ONCE mentions the war in Iraq.

If her voting record on Iraq weren't bad enough (*see below for details) a few days after Representative John Murtha (D-PA) bravely called for the redeployment of troops currently in Iraq, Hillary offered this response: an immediate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq would be "a big mistake."

On December 20th Senator Hillary Clinton of New York will sit down with Jane Pauley at The Bar Association of San Francisco Special Benefit Event at the Masonic Center for a live C-SPAN broadcast. While using San Francisco as a backdrop for Clinton's re-election campaign, the event is an opportunity for Bay Area Democrats to dish-out $75.00 - $300.00 to attend at 7:00pm no-host reception followed by an evening of political image makeover chit-chat with Pauley and Clinton.

Let's be outside to let Hillary know we're following her. And this is only the beginning.

*Hillary's record:

1) October, 2002: Clinton voted YES on House Joint Resolution 114, "to authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against Iraq." The measure passed the Senate 77-23.

2) April, 2003: Clinton voted YES on Senate measure 762, "to make supplemental appropriations to support Dept. of Defense operations in Iraq, Dept. of Homeland Security and Related Efforts for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2003."

3) Oct., 2003: Clinton voted YES on Senate measure 1689, "to appropriate $87 billion to fund ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. $65.6 billion of which is designated for military operations."

4) June, 2004: Clinton voted YES on Senate measure 2400, "to authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2005 activities of the Dept. of Defense," including $25 billion in emergency funding for military operations in Iraq.

In addition to those votes:

a) In Feb., 2005 she made the somewhat dubious statements that much of Iraq was functioning well, that elections there had succeeded and that the insurgency was failing (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=515943).

b) In Feb., 2005, she said the US should not set a deadline for troop withdrawal because it would "play into the hands of the insurgents."

b) In July 2005, she called for increasing the size of the army by 80,000 soldiers. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/8573139/

c) On Nov. 30, 2005, in advance of Bush's major policy speech on Iraq, Clinton issued her own letter on the war. Go to
