Attention California! Your Voice is Needed!
We just got word that later today, the conference committee on the agriculture budget may consider an amendment to make country-of-origin labeling (COOL) a voluntary program. Senator Feinstein (CA) and Senator Durbin (IL) are key members of the committee who need to stop this from happening. As you probably remember, mandatory COOL was supposed to go into effect in 2004, and has already been delayed until 2006. Now the battle is on over whether to delay it further or make it voluntary (and thus meaningless).
Protect family farmers and consumers right-to-know. Please call today to urge Senators Feinstein and Durbin to protect mandatory COOL -- with no delay.
To reach Senators Durbin or Feinstein, call the Capitol Switchboard at: 202-224-3121

So ...spending 500Billion was a good move?
Initiating premptive war, the loss of our reputation in the international community,
the loss of life in retaliation for ....what?
This was the right move?
Let's see.....3 convictions for terroism.
500 people from 36 countries held incommunicado indefinetly.
2000 americans dead and 80,000 maimed or seriously injured.
Multi - hundreds of thousand of Iraqi's killed
Multi- hundred of thousand s displaced or injured.
My friends.....we have lost something here. We are no longer the champion for peace and freedom! We are no longer the beacon for truth and justice. Are we?
And the cost's continue to mount.

# The History of San Francisco's Lost Cemeteries
Mission Dolores School Auditorium 3371 16th Street
http://www.sanfranciscohistory.org guest speaker: Trina Lopez
Following the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906, San Francisco rose from its own ashes to become one of the livelist cities in America. How is that is also managed to banish nearly all of its dead? The movie A Second Final Rest: The History of San Francisco's Lost Cemeteries exhumes the hidden history of how this modern metropolis managed to systematically relocate nearly all of its burial grounds to make room for the living. Through recollections of residents who remember these forgotten graveyards to reflectons on present day conflicts that pit the living against the dead. This movie reveals an astonishing chapter inthe history of the American West in which those who settled The City by the Bay were unceremoniously sent packing long after they had passed from this world to the next.

Bart to Embarcadero, N-Judah to Caltrain
On October 28, join us as we unmask Clear Channel's agenda. Station KNEW refers to immigrants as "vermin," people of color as "criminals," and promotes physical violence against our communities.
KNEW is Clear Channel's true face unmasked - it's home to almost every well-known hate radio host, including Michael Savage and Bill Bennett.
After being fired from MSNBC for homophobic comments that directed gay people to "Get AIDS and die," host Michael Savage was quickly hired by Clear Channel in the Bay and syndicated nationally.
And last week, on his morning show, Bill Bennett said that, "If you wanted to reduce crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."
While Savage and Bennett have a right to free speech, no radio station is legally obligated to broadcast their bigoted views. The Bay Area says NO to racist, homophobic radio! JOIN US October 28!

Thinking Critically About Propaganda
Instructor: Marlys Mayfield, author of Thinking for Yourself.
Lecture and Discussion Topics include:
.Why we love propaganda
.Why we believe it affects others, but not us
.How we have come to accept ever-widening U.S. government use of 6propaganda
.How the U.S. public relations industry makes propaganda ubiquitous and acceptable
.How propaganda affects news sources and corrupts democracy.
Historic and current video clips will be shown to illustrate commercial and political propaganda. Recent innovations will be discussed like government-produced, counterfeit "news releases," and a new state department of "public diplomacy" whose purpose is to market America abroad. A bibliography will be provided.

The holiday popularly known as Halloween is the time of year known to witches as Samhain, when the veil is thin between the worlds of the living and the dead. We gather to remember and honor our ancestors, our Beloved Dead, and all those who have crossed over. As we mourn for those we love who have died this year, we also mourn the losses and pain suffered by the Earth, our Mother. Yet even as we grieve we also remember and honor the sacred cycle of life, death, rebirth and regeneration, celebrating the births of our children born this year, and our own vital connections to the Earth and each other, in which we ground our hope. more...

# 10/29: Dissident Israeli academic/activist Ilan Pappe (oakland downtown)
The Modern Middle East
Ilan Pappe brings us the first introductory textbook on the modern Middle East to foreground the urban, rural, cultural and women's histories of the region over its political and economic history.
Dr. Ilan Pappe is a senior lecturer of Political Science at Haifa University. He is one of Israel's "new historians," so called because their writings, based on access to material recently released by the British and Israeli archives, has started to undermine myths about the foundation and early years of the Israeli state.
Pappe has been threatened with dismissal by the university because of his support for a Jewish graduate student whose dissertation had brought to public attention to a massacre in an Arab village by Israeli forces in 1948. More recently, Pappe has been attacked for his support of a boycott of Israeli academic institutions.
Introduced by Stanford Professor Khalil Barhoum

Chet Helms was one of the founding fathers of the psychedelic movement from the 1960's. As promoter for the "Family Dog", Chet developed the concept of the modern rock concert and was one of the founding fathers of the 1960's peace movement that swept the nation and made waves around the world. Chet was also the catalyst that brought together Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company, which helped shape the San Francisco sound. Without Chet Helms, as many have said, there would be no Grateful Dead, no Jefferson Airplane, no Big Brother and the list goes on and on. He promoted other acts like the Charlatans, the Great Society, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Peter Tosh, The Clash and countless others. Chet Helms continued promoting pivotal concerts through four decades. In the 60's at the Avalon Ballroom, Family Dog at the Beach, S.F. Golden Gate Park, Denver Dog, and Crystal Ballroom in Portland.

Welcome to Halloween in the Castro, one of San Francisco's most unique neighborhood celebrations.
This is the 3rd year that the City has come together with Castro community organizations, businesses and neighbors to create a safe, fun, entertaining evening.
Be creative. Halloween allows us to transform ourselves for this night of merriment. So dress up.
Our biggest change is that Halloween in the Castro does not allow drinking of alcohol on the streets.
When you arrive, our wonderful San Francisco Sheriffs will welcome you at the gates. Please give at least $5 to support the event. Sheriffs will confiscate alcohol and ensure that no one comes in with dangerous costumes or props (in 2002 someone brought in a working chain saw!) so leave those swords, hockey sticks, and power tools at home.
There will be three stages of entertainment and music, featuring live performers, DJs, costume contests and more. I want to thank my Energy 92.7 friends DJ Fernando and Greg the Gay Sportscaster for emceeing this yearís main stage with Heklina of Trannyshack.
Expanded Muni, BART and Taxi service, makes it easy to get to the Castro without driving – there will not be parking.
Our goal is a fun, neighborhood Halloween celebration. All are welcome, but remember the Castro is the heart of our City's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender community. Individuals who are intoxicated or violent will quickly meet San Francisco Police Officers and spend the rest of the evening in County Jail 9.
So Play Nice and A Have Fun, Happy Halloween!

# Wed Nov 2, 7pm Santa Rosa Oil Awareness Meetup Group
We are focused of promoting awareness of our society's utter dependance on petroleum and natural gas, limited and non-renewable resources. What happens when the cheap energy is gone? We saw what happened when hurricane Katrina disrupted oil production and the flow of goods and services in the region. What happens when the transportation and economic networks begin to break down on an even larger scale due to dwindling resources and sky-rocketing production costs? What can we do as individuals to circumvent such a disaster and raise awareness of the impending crisis?
The Santa Rosa Oil Awareness November Meetup
Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at 7:00PM
At our next meeting, we hope to shift the focus from the "problem" of peak oil to solutions. How do we promote awareness of this impending crisis (without looking like a poster child for the lunatic fringe)? What can we do to protect ourselves and our families? How do we start building community, localize the production of necessary goods and services, and create sustainable lifestyles? What are the concrete survival skills we need to cultivate in the absence of centralized government guidance? Please come to share your experience and concerns. Feel free to bring a snack or beverage to share. Our next screening of "The End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and The Collapse of the American Dream" will be held on November 16th at 7 PM at New College in Santa Rosa.

# *November 3rd Day of Action to Save Ancient Forests
<http://www.kleercut.net/nov3events> *
Kleenex sells 180 billion sheets of tissue paper each year and NOT ONE
of them has any recycled content. They can make a tissue that stops the
spread of the flu but they can't make them out of something besides
10,000 year old forests? Kleenex even goes as far as to boast on their
website that their tissues are made from 100% virgin fiber. Kleenex and
parent corporation Kimberly-Clark are felling ancient forests to flush
them down the toilet. Phooey!
More than 90,000 folks have sent messages to tell Kimberly-Clark and
Kleenex to change their ways. We know that Kimberly Clark is wiping out
ancient forests for disposable tissues, but we need your help to spread
the word and STOP the destruction.
**
Join Greenpeace and other groups for an *International Day of Action on
November 3 rd *. Visit the day of action events center at
*http://www.kleercut.net/nov3events?lst* to find and RSVP for an event
in your area, or list your own event!
**
If you can commit to flyering for an hour at your local grocery store,
list it so others can join you. Every flyer, poster, phone call and
petition signature turns up the heat on these tissue tyrants. We ve put
together a downloadable day of action kit with everything you ll need,
including event how-to s, flyers, posters, and petitions.
On November 3 rd , tell your neighbors, your friends, your family, and
your local grocery store shoppers that buying Kleenex is blowing away
one of the oldest and rarest forests on Earth.
Feel free to email usa kleercut net if you
have any questions or need advice. And be sure to check out

What is the Spiral Dance?

See you in the streets!

Through Prehensile Eyes shows Williams at the top of his game. His
work is always provocative, thoughtful, masterfully composed and
executed.
At the 111 Minna Gallery, Robert Williams will give a slideshow and a
