Sara Halprin, author of Seema's Show: A Life on the Left, will sign at Modern Times Bookstore, October 18 at 7:30 PM. Her book is a biography of Seema Weatherwax who hung out with the likes of Woody Guthrie, Imogene Cunningham, and Edward Weston and was an assistant to Ansel Adams. Seema was also a member of the communist party and active in progressive politics, civil rights campaigns, and the California peace and justice movement. In fact, she was a board member of the California NAACP and is still involved in Santa Cruz with the local peace movement.
At 95 years old, Seema had her first show of her own work and this summer, at 100, she celebrated the publication of this book and her many accomplishments.
