Right Wing Thugs Rip Down Anti-War Display Again!

Hello Supporters of the First Amendment!

Right wing extremists, the same type of folks who so adamantly defend "property rights" when corporations are challenged for destroying the environment, have taken down the anti-war display of Steve and Virginia Pearcy yet another time. These extremists are strong opponents of the First Amendment and individual property rights, as evidenced by their deplorable, criminal actions.

We should all give our support to the Pearcy's courageous stand against these criminal lowlifes and thugs and urge the District Attorney to find and prosecute the perpetuators.

Hello everyone:

Another of our "Bush Lied, I Died" soldier displays was ripped down and
stolen yesterday from our Land Park home. This is the 4th time in the last
8 months that this has happened, and the 2nd time in less than a month.

In addition to these 4 attacks, the following things have happened since
last February:

1) our cars, our guests cars, and our house has been egged on several
occasions;
2) Bush re-election stickers have been affixed to out living room window;
3) our house was fired upon with multiple rounds of paint balls at 2am;
4) US Marine stickers were affixed to several windows on our house;
5) a shovel was stuck in the middle of our front lawn between two orange
cones spaced about 7 feet across from one-another (the way a grave site is
marked for digging in a cemetery);
6) numerous "hate" letters have arrived in the mail;
7) numerous threats on our answering machine have been left;
8) we've received numerous annoying hang-up calls;
9) garbage has been thrown on our lawn on many occasions (McDonalds bags,
beer bottles, etc.);
10) someone subscribed us to about 40 different magazines (which fills our
mailbox quickly since we're away often);
11) police have mysteriously and inexplicably come to our house while we
were in Berkeley;
12) etc.

Last week, I tried to seek info about one of the vandals by using
Craigslist. I posted a photo of the 2nd vandal in "Missed Connections" and
asked for info about the person. However, my messages kept getting flagged.
When I complained to Craig, the Craigslist CEO (Jim Buckmaster) emailed me
back and accused me of berating them and said I should use someone else's
site. So I asked people to email Craig to encourage him not to allow
flaggers to thwart my attempts to identify the right-wing vandals. Many of
you emailed Craig, and I thank you for that. Craigslist people, however,
have continued to allow the flagging.

Virginia is on vacation this week, so we had hoped to enjoy some time
together here in Berkeley. We had also planned to go to the SF rally this
Saturday, but now we're not sure. We're getting a bit tired and
disappointed. It's bad enough that we have to challenge the right about so
many of their outrageous policies and acts, and that the justice system
(police and Jan Scully) looks away when they don't like the politics; but
when "liberal" organizations such as Craigslist indirectly assist these
right-wing nuts, then we feel like all of our other efforts are futile.

Although they may ignore us, I wanted to ask one last time if people could
email either Craig Newmark (craig [at] craigslist.org) or Jim Buckmaster
(jim [at] craigslist.org) to encourage their cooperation with our attempts to
identify someone who vandalized our property. Also, if you emailed them
before, a 2nd email could help.

THROW SOME SHIT BACK!!!
The reason freedom of speech is so crucial, is that it is the only way we can address grievances about any other issue. These tresspassing, vandalizing critics have crossed the line. Organizing a picket in front of his home (and display) is the proper response in a free society.

Both the vandalism, and the failure of law enforcement to pursue the perpetrators have marked this case as a warning sign of the erosion of our civil rights to express our views. It is wrong to intimidate or threaten those you disagree with. And censorship has no place in a free society regardless whether its being done by the government, private organizations, or thuggish individuals.

You're concerned about private property rights? Really? Tell that to Starbucks, Mc Donalds, and the other property that is vandalized in your "non violent direct action". You're concerned about the right to free expression? Really? Tell that to the Daily Californian writers whose newspapers were stolen by Leftist goons and dumped in the trash. Tell it the Cal Patriot, whose papers are burned in newsracks. Tell it to Netanyahu and other speakers who have been shouted down and physically attacked by ragin mobs in Berkeley. I have to agree, the Left does not really believe in free speech. In addition to stealing newspapers and chasing speakers they don't like out of town, they also shout down people a city council meetings that they don't agree with. Don't believe me? Try and go to a city council meeting and complain about being hassled by beggers. They only believe in free speech for anyone spouting their leftist dogma. That's why I laugh when I hear of "Free Speech Plaza" or "Free Speech Radio".

The comments on here reveal the real agenda of much of the right. They talk about private property and respect for the law but then get very defensive about the destruction of private property of those they disagree with. Being right-wing these days seems to have less to do with law and private property than it has to do with hatred for anyone with different views from their own.

Throwing money at problems for political reasons, corruption, wars with no exit plan, attacks on the right to bear arms... are things that the right-wing always attacked under Clinton but now defend when they are done by Bush. Being left-wing or right-wing unfortunately has less to do with real political belief than it does with supporting ones team right or wrong.

It is interesting to see someone trying to defend an attack on someones home by pointing at some unrelated student at Berkeley throwing away free papers a few years ago... is the argument that there whould be a collective idea of guilt based off political affiliation ... if so can we blame every Republican for any action by neoNazis.... or perhaps blame all supporters of the first Gulf War for any action by the Saudis?

Both the "left" and the "right" has its share of goons and hypocrites. Bullying and censorship is practiced by individuals on both "sides", yet the right seems to be most aggressive in using violence to influence stifling dialogue, especially any critics of the Bush regime. Hypocrisy is also evident on both "sides", regardless of political affiliation since we're all connected by the same power grid that exploits resources for financial gain. In some way we're all hypocrites, an example is i am forced to pay my PG&E bill if i want to cook food on a stove yet i am aware of numerous human rights violations by PG&E (air pollution at Hunter's Point, price gouging with Halliburton's "energy crisis" fabrication, leasing land to SPI for clearcutting, etc..). Since i am not allowed to start cooking fires in my yard (unless i want a visit from officer friendly), i need to pay the PG&E bill or have my power shut off. Since i continue to protest PG&E, that makes me a hypocrite. The same goes for people who depend on petroleum byproducts (gasoline, plastic bags, etc.) and simultaneously protest the Bush regime for their ongoing occupation of Iraq which we know benefits the petroleum corporations by maintaining their petrol-opoly. We accept and live with our hypocrisy and continue to protest for health, harmony, equality and a more peaceful existence on Earth..

We need to discuss US petroleum consumption and the occupation of Iraq as multi-pronged issues from the same root source, not separate issues. When discussing price gouging at the pumps by petrol-opolies, we also need to discuss means to reduce petroleum consumption by increasing affordable and effective public transit, bicycle friendly communities, etc..

Since the US constitution protects freedom of speech, then any interference with said free speech violates the US Constitution. The so-called "patriots" (in fact cowards) who vandalize the homes of peace activists need to reread the Declaration of Independence and maybe they will discover the part about tyranny or despotism in government, that all US citizens have the right and the duty to remove or "throw off" any despots from public office. There is enought evidence that indicates that the GW Bush regime is illegally occupying the Presidency and is acting in the manner of a despot, thus this regime needs to be removed by the people. That is written in the Declaration of Independence. Instead of acting like cowardly bullies throwing corporate trash on peace activists' yards, why not be a real patriot and act to remove the despotic Bush regime from office..

To me it seems pretty petty to have such a timid reaction to this relatively minor harassment. There posted statement is pretty inflammatory (although I agree with its essential truth), and they should have expected some degree of reaction from various uneducated hoodlums in their neighborhood. This level of pranks seem pretty insignificant if we consider the level of physical and psychological harrassment parcticed actively by the US government, the torture of protestors in other countries (often with US govt. assistance), firebombing of voter registration offices in the deep South, etc. If we on the left don't grow some backbone, how can we expect our protests to be taken seriously. I guess I'm also kind of shocked that SF Indymedia community put this on the front page - c'mon aren't we in a WAR, a racist corporate sponsired oligarchy is running the county, and these dorks are upset because they got subscribed to Readers Disgest and someone left beer bottles on there lawn?
