on state-legal patients.
Who: Co-sponsoring supervisors and YOU - the affected community!
Why: Reps Hinchey and Rohrabacher will be introducing an amendment to H.R. 2862
- a Department of Justice budget bill, that would not allow them to use their funds
to arrest, prosecute or imprison state-legfal medical marijuana patients or
caregivers. We need to show that SF supports every effort to do so by our elected

votes, we want her to know she has the support to step it up a notch.

*Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi and Colleagues Overwhelmingly Support
Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi’s Effort to Pass Hinchey-Rohrbacher
Amendment: Decriminalizing Medical Marijuana*
On June 14th, members of Congress will be debating and voting on the
Hinchey-Rohrbacher Amendment. The amendment will stop the Department of
Justice from using any of their resources to interfere with medical
marijuana laws.
Board of Supervisors, Ross Mirkarimi, Tom Ammiano, Sophie Maxwell, Chris
Daly, Bevan Dufty, Jake McGoldrick and Aaron Peskin are co-sponsoring a
resolution calling on local Congresswomen Nancy Pelosi "to use all
resources at her disposal to pass the Hinchey-Rohrabacher amendment".
Congresswoman and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is a
long-standing advocate for making medical marijuana available to
patients who suffer from debilitating illnesses, and has consistently
supported regulatory and statutory efforts to change federal law to
permit states to authorize medical marijuana to alleviate painful suffering.
"I am introducing this resolution for the Imperative Calendar today to
support Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi's effort in passing the
Hinchey-Rorbacher amendment - the passage of this amendment would
resolve what the recent Supreme Court decision did not, and that is to
halt the criminalizing of medical cannabis patients who suffer from
debilitating illnesses," stated Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi. "While the
Bush Administration pours billions of dollars into the Iraq morass, it
needs to stop using scarce federal dollars to criminalize medical
cannabis here at home".
