Remembering John Brown On His 205th Birthday

by ntuit
John Brown - An American Revolutionary - 205th Birthday - May 9, 2005
Yesterday (May 9) was John Brown’s 205th Birthday. Its strange but you get the feeling most people want to forget about John Brown and the things he did to bring about the end of slavery. He was one abolitionist who included the black community in the development and implementation of initiatives to end slavery. He was a true radical and revolutionary who gave his life in the effort to end slavery.

Some interesting websites on John Brown:

interesting to see this post

I just purchased and started to read "John Brown, Abolitionist", a recently published book by David Reynolds, and, so far, it is a riveting work

and, while I tend to be displeased by the tendency in American culture to translate the experiences of people of color through sympathetic white supporters, Brown, in my view, transcends it, given the obvious fact that he was willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with African Americans and die with them

some reviews:

naturally, the Wall Street Journal hated it, according to the Cognitive Dissonance blog

but. then, he presents a troubling role model for those who would like to limit resistance to American imperialism to pacifism
