Women Artists needed to construct Altar

by Elizabeth Creely
Altar commemorating lives lost to illegal abortions needs to be built at the Women's Building.
Female artists needed to construct an altar at the Women’s Building to commemorate the loss of women’s lives due to illegal abortion.
The space has been secured and only awaits your vision. This is linked to a series of pro-choice, reproductive justice events through the 21st and the 22nd. So please lend your time and talents to creating this space. For more information, please contact the event organizer, Elizabeth Creely at
elizabethcreely [at] yahoo.com. This is non-paid. Ideally, the altar would be built during the preceeding day, Jan. 20th
Below is an announcement for the night time events of Jan 21st.

“Voices From the Alley”
A Living Newspaper
Written by Elizabeth Creely
Directed by Lucie Field

TIME: January 21st at 7:00 PM
PLACE: Osage Alley (directly next to Café La Boheme and across from the 24th St. BART station
“Voices from the Alley” will be followed by a candlelit procession from Osage Alley to the Woman’s Building at 18th and Lapidge in honor of women who died from illegal abortions

All participants are asked to bring candles, offerings/objects to decorate the alter.

Join us for a staged reading of “Voices From the Alley”, a Living Newspaper that tells the stories of women who survived illegal abortions. Before Roe v Wade became the law, more than 200,000.00 women were forced to put their health in jeopardy annually by seeking illegal abortions. Today, according to the Canadian organization Childbirth by Choice, many more women from around the world die each year following abortions performed in unsanitary conditions.
“Voices From the Alley” tells their story.

WHY DO WE STILL HAVE TO TELL THESE STORIES?

Thirty-two years after Roe v. Wade, our rights are eroding. Repressive state and federal legislation has allowed health care providers to refuse to offer or cover sexual and reproductive health services. Pharmacists in some states are legally allowed to refuse to fill prescriptions for contraception’s. And fully 87 % percent of all counties in the United States do not have abortion providers.

WHY ARE OUR RIGHTS DISAPPEARING?

Because the Right is mobilized and on the move. On January 22nd, 10,000 anti-choice activists are descending on San Francisco, to erode public support for legalized abortion.

Join us the evening of the 21st to remember.
Join us January 22nd to fight

WE”LL NEVER GO BACK.

Keep Abortion Legal

by because we will organize....
We will organize not just marches and speeches and yoga parties so that we can just cope mentally with the unjust society that keeps us from getting what was once normalcy:
power to make decisions for the good of the whole society.
Patriarchy did not always exist! God was not always a male!
When we realize that we must get that religious bunk out of our heads - that GOD IS A MALE- then we can see clearer what has to be done.
Take power to save Mother Earth and its children!

Sisters, it's time to move forward because the fascist patriarchs want to make us go backwards!

We have the economical clout to smash the corporate state tomorrow. That is if we organize a militant political arm which takes its orders from the base.
And patriarchs know our power...they know it so well that they coopt the few women who still have the male in their head with token positions here and there. They keep their t.v. propaganda machine at work so that 2-3 year old Jane learns to know her place. The 21st century will be her-story!

UP FROM UNDER!
