At this meeting the community will demand a public hearing on the transformation of 13 Oakland schools and the OEA will lay out some powerful demands for their transformation. State Administrator Randy Ward's proposal simply drastically reduce union rights of teachers and staff at these schools, firing all the staff and allowing them to reapply for positions at these sites.
The OEA will be hosting a community meeting on the crisis facing the Oakland schools will take place on Wednesday, January 19th, from 5-8PM at the OEA office at 272 East 12th Street (12th Street and 3rd Ave). Please RSVP to Jonah Zern at jzern1 [at] yahoo.com.

Its more like 35 schools facing "transformation".
Thank you for getting the word out. I would like to add that this is an issue that Californian's concerned about public education should be involved in.
If you investigate the background of the new school administrator, he is indeed involved with "for-profit education" (that almost sounds like an oxymoron). This is yet another attempt by big business to profit off of regular citizen's needs. As usual, they are hitting the poorest communities first.
I strongly encourage anyone who is concerned about the state of public education in California to come to this school board meeting and make your opinion known about the idea of profiting off the struggles of inner city schools! Remember, if they find out it is easy to "pull this over" on the Oakland school district, they will certainly try it somewhere else; your city might be next!!
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
