Join us on the biggest shopping day before Christmas at Union Square to Protest the Occupation of Palestine. Wear Black. Bring a drum if you have one. To all Bay Area Women in Black, Bay Area Women in Black will hold our fourth annual silent walking vigil on Friday, November 26, the busiest shopping day of the year, at noon at Union Square in San Francisco. We will assemble at the Bank of America across from the Powell Street BART station at 11:50, then walk single file and silently for about an hour along a designated route. Please come dressed entirely in black. In case of rain, please bring a black umbrella. Instruments and signs will be provided. We need your help. As we assess the dangerous consequences of this disastrous election, we want to expand our outreach so that our vigil can be as large as possible. Please help us get the turnout necessary to register a strong protest and raise public consciousness. Each of us can resist this turn towards an imperial presidency and a war-- a war not against terrorism but against dissent, by enacting both small and large acts of conscience. We are living in an historic time, perhaps the most ominous period of our lives. This is a moment where both history and the future call us to act with insistence, with compassion and with courage. It is critical that we persevere even when it is easy to become disheartened by the war-driven trajectory of the American government. This is a time to settle in for the long haul, to persist in making the voices of reason heard and to coalesce in community building. Please let us know if you are willing and able to place flyers in your local cafes, bookstores, etc., in your neighborhood and elsewhere. We are not able to advertise (too expensive), but we can have thousands of flyers out there if you are willing to help. We always need help transporting and returning the puppets and signs from the East Bay, as well as spreading the word about our work to your friends, colleagues and neighbors. If there are newsletters at your place of that work or in your community organizations, please put our notice of the vigil so it reaches a wide and broad network of people. Further, if there are email lists that you use in your political or community organizing, please consider allowing us one time use to give individuals the chance to sign onto our list after that first contact and incorporate them into our now nearly 1000 names. We are also looking for women drummers. All that is needed is that you bring a drum and hold a simple beat with the other drummers. We want to mobilize our broad support base and expand our numbers, our efforts and our impact. Please help! In these perilous times, we feel that taking action is crucial. Everyone is welcome. Please join us. Thank you. Bay Area Women in Black
