DESCRIPTION:Join us on the biggest shopping day before Christmas at Union Square to
Protest the Occupation of Palestine. Wear Black. Bring a drum if you have
one.\n\nTo all Bay Area Women in Black,\n\nBay Area Women in Black will
hold our fourth annual silent walking \nvigil on Friday, November 26, the
busiest shopping day of the year, at \nnoon at Union Square in San
Francisco.\n\nWe will assemble at the Bank of America across from the
Powell Street \nBART station at 11:50, then walk single file and silently
for about an \nhour along a designated route. Please come dressed entirely
in black. \nIn case of rain, please bring a black umbrella. Instruments and
signs\nwill be provided.\n\nWe need your help. As we assess the dangerous
consequences of this \ndisastrous election, we want to expand our outreach
so that our vigil \ncan be as large as possible. Please help us get the
turnout necessary \nto register a strong protest and raise public
consciousness. Each of us \ncan resist this turn towards an imperial
presidency and a war-- a war \nnot against terrorism but against dissent,
by enacting both small and \nlarge acts of conscience.\n\nWe are living in
an historic time, perhaps the most ominous period of \nour lives. This is a
moment where both history and the future call us \nto act with insistence,
with compassion and with courage. It is \ncritical that we persevere even
when it is easy to become disheartened \nby the war-driven trajectory of
the American government. This is a time \nto settle in for the long haul,
to persist in making the voices of \nreason heard and to coalesce in
community building.\n\nPlease let us know if you are willing and able to
place flyers in your \nlocal cafes, bookstores, etc., in your neighborhood
and elsewhere. We\nare not able to advertise (too expensive), but we can
have thousands of \nflyers out there if you are willing to help. We always
need help \ntransporting and returning the puppets and signs from the East
Bay, as \nwell as spreading the word about our work to your friends,
colleagues \nand neighbors. If there are newsletters at your place of that
work or \nin your community organizations, please put our notice of the
vigil so \nit reaches a wide and broad network of people. Further, if there
are \nemail lists that you use in your political or community organizing,
\nplease consider allowing us one time use to give individuals the chance
\nto sign onto our list after that first contact and incorporate them
\ninto our now nearly 1000 names.\n\nWe are also looking for women
drummers. All that is needed is that you \nbring a drum and hold a simple
beat with the other drummers. We want to \nmobilize our broad support base
and expand our numbers, our efforts and \nour impact. Please help! In
these perilous times, we feel that taking \naction is crucial. Everyone is
welcome. Please join us.\n\nThank you.\n\nBay Area Women in Black\n\n
