I thought the City of San Francisco was in dire financial straits
Why so many police officers? There are never that many officers in the troubled neighborhoods. Were they there to protect the shoppers? Or were they there for protesters?
If the latter is true. It is cause for concern.
Mr Newsom appears to be making some wrong moves.

Listen honey, I was here while Gavin was still giving that Getty boy head. You go away, and take your dot-not friends with you.
Geez you people who comment on here are not nice.
Who, me? I'm the one who posted the "f off" comment. I'm not nasty, I just don't appreciate being told to leave my city by a Newsom supporter. Since when do I have to leave a city just because I don't like the program of a few? This is the same BS that the dot commers (and by that, I mean the people who were embodying greed and apathy, as well as hostility towards the ideals that have sustained the "good" parts of San Francisco since the 1950s) put out in the late 90s until their bubble burst. It was a little hyperbolic of me, but it's been a banner week or so, ya know?
ps: if this is some kind of bait to turn around and accuse "the left" of being duplicitous and phony, spare me. leave a message on the machine, and we'll *yawn* get back to you...

Buy your own goddam insurance. The people of SF don't owe YOU a damn thing. You know damn well the cops are there to keep order and protect taxpayers from the usual street thugs that infest all these loser "protests". Get fucking used to it, and pay your own bills. I got my own.
Actually, having gone to scores of protests over the years, I don't know what you're talking about. Are you speaking from personal experience, or speaking out your ass?
San Francisco has become a hard city, and it's sad to see people being attacked for telling the truth about it. If some people have a problem with the truth being expressed in strong terms, maybe they should begin to understand that some of us are getting fed up with the apathy, hostility and stupidity of people who show themselves to be dedicated lickers of the jackboots on our necks.
> tired of licking the jackboots on our necks
you said it. i only get pissy when attacked, or when people try to vehemently defend my attackers in some kind of "who the hell are you" accusatory tone. who the hell am i? i'm someone who is getting sick and tired of seeing sf become a place where you can't protest without the fear of a baton to the head, and you can't survive if you're of color, trans or poor without fear of being shot. i'm especially sick of people defending the use of militarized thugs, idiot pretty boy mayors and their draconian policies, and an absurdly high cost of living to drive out the people who made SF something other than some declining (forgive me) Baghdad by the Bay for the Swigs and Gettys of the world. you don't like it? your upper middle class ass can move just about anywhere you want, so fuck off.
sorry for all this angry scatology, but after at least seven years of this bs (and that's only this particular time around), i'm fed up. to the barricades! or whatever.

It's unfortunate that being nice -- which is what we really want to be -- is interpreted by the tyrants who rule us, and the lackeys who legitimate and support them (out of their own self-interest or their craven fear of authority), as a declaration of weakness and an invitation to step up their abuse. I'm shocked (but somehow not surprised, if you can imagine that) to see the dynamics of a fascist society at play throughout our entire social environment -- including our beloved and often misused Indymedia.I used to wonder how it was that the Nazis could rule with the supportive complicity of the majority of the German population, even to the point of committing genocide right under their noses -- literally. But I see that it's no different in the US (where genocide is widely accepted as the main instrument of foreign policy). Civil discourse, in the best social sense, is our goal; but there is no real "civil society" when certain groups of people are systematically treated as garbage, and are still expected to be nice. "Nice garbage" is an oxymoron. What a joke! That people would expect pleasantries from people who are fighting for their lives! Turn off the TV! Remember: "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

Oh whoever you are, you're making my day. It's quite clear to me that our "niceness" (as in, actually caring about other human beings outside of some closed circle of my, myself and mine) is taken by many conservatives as a sign of weakness. Well, for whoever's lurking here, waiting for the next nice "liberal" to come along, let me assure that you I am very clear on the distinctions between niceness and self-defense. My mama raised me well, and I'm not about to be snowed by one of you nazi scumbag clowns. Thanks again, FB.
FS, sorry. thx 'gain.
It makes my day, too, to read intelligent comments by one of the very few who are helping to save Indymedia from "indymediocrity." The far right are able to marshal their legions of morons to flood the media with inanities and bullshit attacks on people who are working (and, yes, putting their lives on the line) to create a livable world for everyone -- even their ignorant selves (who, we hope, would see things differently under conditions that would foster the necessary evolution of the human species). Thank you, thank you, for your gift of thoughtful, comradely comment in the midst of so much fascist drivel.
thanks for your warm words. indymediocrity? ::chuckles:: well, yah, true it is, sad though it may be. see you on the front lines, c...
i blame the collective hostility to a) thinking outside acceptable parameters, and b) questioning received wisdom. there is so much groupthink, enforced under the imperative of "niceness" (or whatever), that we're awfully thin-skinned, for being so critical of the world around us.
much like the president (ironically enough), we get challenged on our ideas so little by those around us, that we are utterly unprepared when we have to articulate and defend them in the "real world."

To “you blame your opposition for your mediocrity”:
What “collective hostility”? You mean there is a fascist collectivity? What “acceptable parameters”? Acceptable to whom? I suggest it is the blind acceptance of received “wisdom” (the standard mode of brain activity for those who can’t think for themselves) that has brought the world to the brink of social and ecological collapse, and war-without-end. What we (who exercise our well-developed minds cutting through fascist bullshit) are not open to is right-wing groupthink, which uncritically accepts the “reality” imposed upon the masses by the rich and the powerful to protect and advance their own class interests. How stupid. Most Bush supporters will never get a piece of the action, but they can always dream – and take consolation that they voted for the winning ticket. When you lose your job and find there’s no social safety net there for you, you can always take consolation in the fact that gays will not be getting legally married anytime soon. Think about it while you’re eating your Crap Dinner. And, by the way, as anyone who knows me can attest, mediocrity is not one of my characteristics. I only got involved in this thread because I found one other person, the original poster, who wrote something worth responding to. All the rest of the comments were just the usual brain-dead ad hominem (or ad feminam) attacks. What you fascist wannabes don’t seem to realize is that intelligent folks skip over your babble to share our own ideas and mutual support and encouragement. Whatever you think of yourselves, your “thoughts” are insignificant and no impediment to the movement that will soon overtake you with the force of a tsunami. Whoever you are, you are easier to reach than your leaders.

and all that.
like i said, when you get really worked up, your rhetoric isn't so different from bush's. perhaps that's because you're both driven primarily by ideology rather than reason.
likewise, you readily admit that you really only seek to communicate with people who already agree with you?
it's just something to think about, is all. i mean, you do want to communicate effectively, right? to someone? somewhere?
peace out. (now when was the last time a fascist said that to ya?)

arguing with some freeper or bored cop on surveillance duty is *not* "the real world". i talk with folks outside leftie circles all the time, and if anything, find more in common with people who aren't part of die-hard activist circles than not. i'm not thin-skinned, i'm pissed off at right-wing assholes who are hell (yes, hell) bent on fucking up the country even more than it already is.
the world needs people who aren't gonna back down when the right thinks that we're just gonna roll over, i'm sorry. even notice how the freeper creepers thumb their nose at us (or threaten to beat the crap out of us) when we play nice? ever wonder why that is? quite frankly, you should, 'cause that's how fascism gets started, drip by bloody drip. wake up your wack-ass self, please...

other things to do, now that the head cold is fading...
