Where Can a Homeless Man Sleep in America, If Not at a Church?

by Curtis John Surpless (cjsurpless [at] yahoo.com)
Homeless man arrested for not having a home!
At 10:30pm on July 18th, I was awaken by an officer who, when asked, refused to give me his name and badge number, while placing me under arrest for "loitering".

After being released from the Sonoma County jail, I took the time to look up the penal code that I had allegedly violated, which was, and still is, PC 647(h); Loitering. By the way, I was held in "booking" for 8 hours before being released, without even being given breakfast, at 6:30am.

According to this particular law, to "loiter" means to delay or linger without a lawful purpose for being on the property. Well, I beg to differ, and am planning to work on getting away with this in court. My court date is August 9 at 8:30am. I also plan on taking a jury trial, making them spend the money in retaliation for such stupidity.

The only thing that I've got on my side thus far is God. And this is only because it was at God's house (who happens to also be my Father). I was sleeping on the steps of a church.

Psalm 91:1 says, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty."
