Is Gay Marriage Really So Progressive?

by New College Event
Radical people of color providing a critical view of the marriage "equality" movement.

Is Gay Marriage Really So Progressive?
New College Theater, 777 Valencia Street, San Francisco

Does gay marriage benefit black queer people? Or does it uphold white privilege and a conservative agenda? Come hear radical queer people of color critique the conservative aspects of the gay marriage movement led by the white gay establishment and examine how it benefits primarily middle class whites and prevents us from creating a truly radical social and political queer movement. Let's discuss whether  "gay marriage" represents a truly progressive political direction.

Speakers include UC Berkeley Graduate Students Matt Richardson, Marlon Bailey and Priya Kandaswamy. Sponsored by the New College Center for Education and Social Action

by Just a question. No need to get uptight.
I want to know if/when the "Marriage Freedom" folks are going to step up to the responsibility of their rhetoric, and support freedom for polygamists like the Muslims and the Mormons. (Hell, let's not leave out polyandrists while we're at it...)

Such a move would show that it is a movement about everyone's freedom, and not just about homosexuals acquiring privilege. And it would certainly queer the debate. OTOH, asking for that might be like asking pro-mainstream gays to stick up for tranny rights, because for some people, the fight for "freedom" and "human rights" really is only about and for themselves.

Is freedom, in short, just another word? Or will these activists carry the "Freedom to Marry" message to its logical extreme of full and equal rights for everyone?

Inquiring minds, as they say...
by is deafening
really, it is.

what about equal rights for all? what about the freedom to love?....
