Reclaim the Commons Greening Garfield Park 6/9

by noclass@mutualaid.org
Lots of wonderful Green Bloc Folks and a few Radical Family Collective operatives united to build a cobb dinosaur and do some planting in Garfield Park at Harrison and 25th in SF on June 9th.

This day was billed as a "Day of Solutions" by Reclaim the Commons organizers.
And to me bypassing the tangled red tape "required" just to fart in San Francisco's parks, spending a day with lots of really great people, working with the earth, connecting with the community, demonstrating sustainable building methods and giving our few SF green spaces some TLC, is definitely solution oriented action.

thanks for taking and posting the pics...they are really good quality and tell the story very well...folks were telling me about this, but i have become too disconnected over the years from doing stuff like this...i guess i have lived in the city too long and somehow stopped getting my hands dirty

let a thousand parks bloom!! Reclaim the Commons!!

Very nice pictures: good framing and clean, vivid colors. The scene is very joyous and these pictures make that obvious.

Thank you for sharing.

So many things keep bringing tears to my ears.

These photos are what i wanted to focus on while reclaiming the commons - supporting community gardens and documenting it.

my week in sf took me for quite a spin and i missed out on the gardening.

here's some links to my gardening photos from miami in november. i do not like drawing people's attention away from these amazing people and photos above, but feel people should see more examples of community gardening. hopefully a special website can get set up for community gardening which encourages more events like these.

...before having my face end up on the front of the Chronicle's Bay Area section for protesting biotechnology (6/9/03)..., As a young child i had a photo taken of me with a hand full of red worms in front of my family worm bin. It was an AP article on earthworms and composting which ran in many papers in many cities...
some things change, while some things seem to stay the same.

take it to the streets, take it to the soil,
make media, reclaim the commons!
How great to see these pics! I grew up across the street from Garfield park, and still visit it at least once a year when i'm in the city. I found this from the link on the radical families collective list. Thanks!
