by dave id
Several hundred riders take to the streets from Justin Herman Plaza March 26th, 2004.

First video (1:43) covers gathering at Justin Herman and twilight ride down Market, including corkers being thanked by appreciative riders.

Daylight Savings Time starts soon, so rides are about to enjoy more daylight as well as warmer temperatures!

check out photos from same ride at http://indybay.org/news/2004/03/1675496.php.

§The Big Spill

Lesson: don't forget to watch out for MUNI rails when taking pictures or chatting.

This short video (:22 sec) shows what happens when riding videographer becomes more interested in videotaping than riding.

Note that claims of subject are unverified. I was riding in the back of the pack about this point and I saw no police rush or arrests, but, then again, things happen fast in a large moving group, and if you sneeze who knows what you can miss.
§Fell through Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park

Besides taking 1/2 of Market all the way to the Castro, and all of several neighborhood streets, in this video (#3, 2:07 min) CM took all of Fell, swarmed Haight, took Fell again, then headed to the Music Concourse in the Park to mark the unfortunate beginning of contruction of an underground parking lot there. (more cars in park bad)

Katherine Roberts, who had led the court fight to stop construction, speaks about having her injuction overruled and future steps...

for activist info on stopping the garage see http://indybay.org/news/2004/04/1675964.php (with latest listed on the "enviro" page at http://www.indybay.org/environment/) and mainstream news at http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2004/03/27/BAG9E5SEF71.DTL

DON'T MISS THE NEXT CRITICAL MASS FRIDAY APRIL 30th!! (gather around 5pm, roll by 6-ish)

it is true, two motorcycle cops rode into the mass of cyclists and arrest a man for having a can of budwiser.

Where's the rest of her speech? I'd like to hear what she had to say.
by dave id
sorry for cut off speech, but the video camera battery died right then and there

basically, that was about the gist of the speech, what you see in video... that she had scored injuction against garage through technical issues surrounding public funding, but that city officials had shopped around for another judge to overturn injunction, and that construction was set to begin that week, but that the fight would continue

I did include a few links above for further info on this developing story
