Photos from demo against Zionist bigot Daniel Pipes
In the first photo (with the Gandhi quote), the bearded guy in the middle is an anti-Zionist Jew. So is the guy holding the "Israel: Born of British Colonialism [etc.]" sign. Both signs were made by the African-American brother holding the first sign. The third picture, with the big masks, is of 3 people from "Women in Black".
Contrary to what Pipes and the Pipettes would have one believe, many of the protestors were neither Muslim nor Palestinian.
BTW, These are lightened, cropped and scaled-down versions of three photos that appear at http://users.lmi.net/zombie/pipes/, an obviously bigoted pro-Pipes site. The photographer's name isn't given there, so I don't have it.
* The easiest way to find more info about the event is by doing a Google search for ("Daniel Pipes" Berkeley). To see articles on this site only, add "site:indybay.org" to the search criteria.
It's not hard to imagine the reaction if a Palestinian Arab
came to campus who wrote and said things about Jews and
Israelis similar to what Daniel Pipes writes and says
about Muslims and Palestinians. The speaker and those
who set organized the event would have a lot more to worry about
than a few hecklers and protesters. University officials would be
apologizing all over the place for allowing "anti-semitism"
on campus, university-employed event sponsors would be
"investigated", and the speaker would be labelled a
"terrorist" or "supporter of terrorism" and, if not a
U.S. citizen, face the possibility of deportation or worse!
Pipes and his supporters benefit from the fact that Jewish bigotry, and bigotry against Arabs and Muslims, is treated in an entirely different manner than anything perceived by Jews as bigotry against them/us?* is treated. For a good illustration of this, take a look at the reaction to the mild anti-Israel remarks of Professor Leighton Armitage in an interview with his school newspaper! (See http://indybay.org/news/2004/02/1670589.php.) * I put the question mark after "us" because much, perhaps most, of what is labelled "anti-semitic" or "anti-Jewish" is not directed against persons of Jewish ethnicity, but against supporters of Israel. |
Dude, where have you been? They do it all the time.
