SF A-Zone: Organize a Self-Managed Homeless Center for Radicals
Join with radikal squatters and other homeless people to organize a space managed by consensus and anarchist principles of self-organization
Hello,
I am a anarchist squatter (aka homeless person) that is interested in getting a group of people together to start an autonomous zone that would function as a drop-in center for those afflicted by poverty in the city of San Francisco. It would function as a safe space based on anti-oppression principles and a space that would not bring in false judgements against people but rather would seek to empower each individual according to the needs of each individual. There is a small group of people interested in doing this project, each of whom is currently not housed or sheltered. We are not seeking just homeless persons to engage in this organizing effort but also others that are interested in forming a safe space for the most vulnerable in the activist community here in San Francisco. We are seeking open minded activists that aren't going to trip over the "get a job" mentality that many throw at homeless radicals, street punks, hippies and other homeless folks. For some being homeless and unemployed is actually a political statement about not being copted by the state and capitalism. We all should be honest that this is a needed resource in our community, not simply a political exercise. Every anarchist bookstore, community center and infoshop I have been to has always had a dynamic involved with homeless anarcho-punks and radicals. So let's organize a space where it is explicitly for those most vulnerable to the pressures of capitalism in our community.
If interested please email autonomous [at] mutualaid.org or call 415-867-6362.

You should come up with a slogan. How about: Will work for peace and justice. This would shut people up who tell you to get a job, and it will show that you are an activist.
What a clever idea! Not working as a political statement! I heartily agree. You go ahead and make all the political statements you like. And I, in turn, will make my own political statement by not giving you a cent. Perhaps you could visualize the Greyhound bus going to Los Angeles as your "space" for such activities. Have a good trip!
ah...
someones a little grumpy while surfing indymedia on company time is it? go ahead and work yourself to death at your corporate sponsored enslavement. you are not a pretty butterfly, return to the compost heap.
:-)

please acknowledge that even though not all, but most people that actively choose to be homeless for political statements.. are incredibly priveleged to be able to choose that. the people who are homeless, not be choice, and are extremely political, within their stories of trying to survive, but not through political savy theory, would your space be alienating to them? think about it.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
