SF A-Zone: Organize a Self-Managed Homeless Center for Radicals
Join with radikal squatters and other homeless people to organize a space managed by consensus and anarchist principles of self-organization
Hello,
I am a anarchist squatter (aka homeless person) that is interested in getting a group of people together to start an autonomous zone that would function as a drop-in center for those afflicted by poverty in the city of San Francisco. It would function as a safe space based on anti-oppression principles and a space that would not bring in false judgements against people but rather would seek to empower each individual according to the needs of each individual. There is a small group of people interested in doing this project, each of whom is currently not housed or sheltered. We are not seeking just homeless persons to engage in this organizing effort but also others that are interested in forming a safe space for the most vulnerable in the activist community here in San Francisco. We are seeking open minded activists that aren't going to trip over the "get a job" mentality that many throw at homeless radicals, street punks, hippies and other homeless folks. For some being homeless and unemployed is actually a political statement about not being copted by the state and capitalism. We all should be honest that this is a needed resource in our community, not simply a political exercise. Every anarchist bookstore, community center and infoshop I have been to has always had a dynamic involved with homeless anarcho-punks and radicals. So let's organize a space where it is explicitly for those most vulnerable to the pressures of capitalism in our community.
If interested please email autonomous [at] mutualaid.org or call 415-867-6362.
