An award winning documentary by first time director Kevin Epps, Straight Outta Hunters Point explores a ghetto community plagued by drugs and violence, where the youth cling to fantasies of rap stardom, while their elders are aghast at the overwhelming violence and killings. The film is a stark portrait of life in the Bayview/ Hunters Point section of San Francisco. A neighborhood that has been environmentally sacrificed and economically redlined out of the opportunities and prosperity of one of the world's wealthiest cities. S.O.H.P will be screening each night for a full week at 9:15 p.m in Berkeley beginning Friday May 10th - 17th at The Fine Arts Cinema. This is also a good time to visit the Fine Arts Cinema before it closes in June for a construction project that will darken the theater until 2004. The film will also show again at San Francisco's Red Vic Moviehouse May 23rd - 27th and for one showing in San Rafael's Film Center on May 29th. Director Kevin Epps will appear at selected screenings including the May 2nd Press Screening @ 2 p.m in Berkeley and on KPIX News this evening ( April 30) at 11 p.m. Please contact us at for more info visit the website @ to see the online trailer, read up on the project, the community and sample the soundtrack featuring over a dozen of the Bay Area's raw underground hip hop artists.
