Come and hear a talk and participate in a debate about the possibility of
revolution in the USA.
The brutality of the "war on terrorism" has become all too apparent.
Civilians in Afghanistan and Palestine have been massacred by US made
armaments, people in Iraq, Colombia, the Philippines and elsewhere await a
similar onslaught. At home the constitution has been thrown away, along with
environmental, and anti-nuclear treaties. People are being rounded up on the
basis of ethnic background and held for months - without trial or
prosecution.
This has led many Americans to start asking questions about what they can do
to make this world a better place. What is the alternative to a "war on
terrorism"? Politicians speak cynically of making "realistic" reforms,
while they slash social spending on health, education and welfare.
Socialists have a different view of what is realistic. Socialists believe
that another world is possible, one which is driven by the needs of the
people not the demand for profit.
But this world won't come about easily, those who currently hold power in
our society have proved that they will not abandon it without a fight. And
they weild a lot of force - the US has the largest military in the world.
How in the face of these obstacles can a revolution in the US be possible?
In a world in which 6 million children die every year of malnutrition and in
a country where at least 12 percent of the people live below the poverty
line, this is a crucial question.
