Kate Raphael, a lesbian from the Bay Area, was arrested in Palestine on December 31 as part of a demonstration against Israel’s apartheid wall, which is planned to surround the community of Budrus. She was arrested while video-taping the Israeli soldiers who attacked the demonstration. That afternoon the Israeli government ordered the deportation of Kate and three other international activists arrested at the demonstration. Kate is resisting deportation, and has been held since December 31 in a prison at Hadera. Activists from several groups in the Bay Area are calling a demonstration for Tuesday, January 6, from 4-6 p.m. at the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco, 456 Montgomery St. (at California).
