Victory Over Violence - Bayview Bar B Q This Weekend - August 17th This Sunday August 17th there will be a Summer Barbecue and Birthday Celebration at the newly established Green House in the Bayview/Hunter's Point. The event is being held in memory of late Bayview resident Idriss Stelley and to honor all the surviving families of people disabled or killed by law enforcement. Idriss was shot & killed by nine officers of the San Francisco police on June 13, 2001, and his mother Mesha Irizarry later won a civil suit this year which is destined to become the cornerstone of the Idriss Stelley Memorial Foundation. The Barbecue begins at 3 pm. There will be Live Music & Spoken Word, Food, and the Stolen Lives Memorial Walls will be on display. The Walls bear the names of people across the country who have been killed by law enforcement since the early 1990's. The Green House is to be a community gathering place, a positive space for the use of the local youth, hopefully creating jobs and supporting community awareness. The Green House is also the home of a youth voter registration drive sponsored by the SF Bayview Newspaper. The Foundation will offer a crisis hot line, short term therapy, funeral benefits, and a legal referral panel for people who fall victim to police misconduct, and their families. It will be the home of Victory Over Violence, a support group for families and friends of those killed by law enforcement. Please come and check it out and help San Francisco celebrate a commitment to peace, police reform and Victory Over Violence. This event is open to the public and no one will be turned away for lack of funds, but it is nonetheless a fund raiser for The Idriss Stelley Foundation and Oct 22 Coalition ---------------------------------------------------------------------------for more info: Mesha 846-0749 Sponsored by: SF Bayview Newspaper, Victory oVerViolence, & October 22nd Coaltion -------------------
