RUMINATIONS: A Contemporary Persian Art Festival Honoring the JALALADDIN RUMI In Us All Friday, December 14th Cell Space 2050 Bryant St. near 18th St., San Francisco 7PM-2AM $20 :::Featuring::: PROFESSOR SHEHAB (Baraka Foundation/Baboon) + PIKI DJ SOULSALAAM (SKIN/Bongo Madness/New Conception) LUMIN featuring Fariba Mizban MOSHE D'AVID KUSHA / Host & Poetry Recitations DJ SEP (Prakruti/Dub Mission) ALAN KUSHAN / Musical Tones (Axiom of Choice) KOOROSH ANGALI / Rumi Recitations (XDot 25 Records) ALI DADGAR / Live Painting Love Spells by ANGELIC AROMAS Floor decor by NOMAD RUGS Massage by JONATHAN GAVZER In celebration of JALALADDIN RUMI and his poetic works, this event blends the myriad of cultural art and spirituality that forms Persian culture in the modern age. It directly represents what is happening today in the Persian/American Bay Area and East Coast artist community. Now is a time of deep spiritual evolution especially considering the intensity of events happening in Afghanistan, Iran and the United States. These are very powerful times and this is a very significant day: at 12:53pm (Pacific) there will be an eclipse and the date falls on a New moon eve. We intend to call upon the spirit and teachings of Rumi and Semazen, the Turkish spiritual movement following his teachings, to help us find peace and understanding through education, history and experience. This gathering incorporates poetry recitation, live painting, Persian electronic music producers, DJ's, organic Persian music performed on traditional instruments using non-traditional formulas, improvised visual art, a historical presentation of Persian culture, vendor/info booths, dancing and food to facilitate an environment of deep ritual and healing. This is avant-garde Persian art and performance, simultaneously rooting in tradition and moving beyond boundaries becoming the future of a new Persian perspective. Also, PARABOLA Magazine will be presenting a film on Rumi and we'll having a Sufi dervish dance ritual and other guest appearances. A portion of the proceeds from this event helps to benefit RAWA, The Revolutionary Association for the Women of Afghanistan. http://www.rawa.org To look at the paintings of Ali Dadgar check out... http://www.iranian.com http://www.nomadrugs.com http://www.rawa.org soulsalaam@yahoo.com eventlist@yahoo.com
