ANCIENT FUTURES: TRADITIONAL VALUES
FOR A MODERN WORLD
PRESENTED BY ZACHARY NORRIS
The International Society for Ecology and Culture (ISEC) has worked in Ladakh since 1975, providing Ladakhi people with information about the impact of conventional development in other parts of the world while exploring more sustainable patterns of development in Ladakh itself. Sustainable culture is based on the use of local resources and indigenous knowledge. Zachary will show ISEC’s eye-opening video, “Ancient Futures: Learning from Ladakh,” drawn from the book of the same name by Helena Norberg-Hodge, ISEC's Executive Director, describing traditional Ladakhi culture and the psychological, social, and environmental changes brought about by modernization. It offers crucial insights into what our contemporary world would do well to learn from traditional cultures. Zachary will facilitate discussions before and after the video on the topics it addresses.
