since he's dead and all. He was shot in the back of the head by an indymedia activist. His name was Andy Mickel (McRae). After he shot the poor, unsuspecting officer Mobilio in the back, murdering him in cold blood, he posted his manifesto here on SF IMC. I can't seem to search for articles anymore around here, else I'd post it for you. Seems the "collective" has a lot of data on their server that they don't want YOU to see. Just do a google search though on "Proud and Insolent Youth Incorporated" and see what turns up. Then read Mr. McRae's (may he get the chair and burn in hell) manifesto and pay real close attention to the end where he tells all the other killers and "activists" etc. to make sure to communicate with each other via indymedia. Yeah. Innocuous. Right.

Actually, it was flawed reporting of the major media that led people to think that the one confession that cop killer guy made was at sf.imc. Actually, if you look at the time that the newspapers report that Andrew McRae was arrested in New Hampshire, and then you look at the time of the posting on sf.imc, McCrae would have had to have made the posting *after* he went into custody, or about one hour before when he was barricaded in a hotelroom.
Actually, that confession was posted to at least 20 other sites, including other IMCs and some middle or right wing sites, and many of the confessions were dated earlier. The FBI was tipped off apparently by a man in Texas who had seen the confession somehow 3 or 4 days before the arrest. I suspect that someone in the New Hampshire area who was following the case was quick about searching the internet for a copy of the confession, and then he reposted it to several IMCs right about the time that McCrae was being arrested, and that McCrae was not the one to hit the 'publish' key. In any case, he sounds sort of insane and has no connection with sf.indymedia any more than you could pin the shooting on all white people or all New Hampshire residents or any other group that shares vague demographic characteristics with him.

oh, to keep harping on the timing of the Andrew McCrae arrest, the confession post on sf.indymedia was 7:40pm pacific time on the 25th. the arrest, as you point out, was 10am eastern time or 7am pacific time 12 hours later, but the news article said that this occurred after a long standoff, and that the FBI arrived at the motel at 1am or 2am eastern time, or 11pm pacific time. This seems awfully fast for someone to read sf.indymedia, call the FBI, and for the FBI to then use deductive processes to discover the location where he was located.
If you combine this with the additional facts that were noted in later articles in the SF Chronicle that sf.indymedia *was not* the first site where the confession was made, but rather, a man in Texas had had the confession appear in his email about 3 days earlier and then called the FBI, this makes it clear that nutty andrew mccrae did not primarily make a confession on sf.indymedia.

They're just doing the job the good citizens of California pay them to do. Can't say they're doing the best job what with all that economic strife going on out there, and politicians getting ousted and all that, but at least they're hearts are in the right place.
