Protect Free Speech and Safety of Protesters at Sacramento Ministerial events June20-25 email: hfargo [at] CityOfSacramento.org
Sacramento Police are gearing up for the upcoming events and protests surrounding next week's "Ministerial Conference and Expo on Agricultural Science and Technology." Local police have been training with guns that shoot pepper spray bullets, they've increased baton use training, and conducted crowd control maneuvers, including group trainings with downtown bicycle officers to control and disperse crowds. In addition, out of town police officers, not familiar with our community, have been brought in for next week.
We must protect our first amendment rights of Free Speech and our safety by sending a clear message to Mayor Fargo that we expect her to:
Give specific instructions to the Police Chief and all city Police to respect the rights and safety of all people, including and especially protesters.
Instruct all police officers to treat the public and protesters with professionalism, courtesy and respect.
Convey unequivocally to city police that the use of excessive force will not be tolerated.
Please call Mayor Fargo's office today at (916) 808-5300 and tell her to protect free speech (and if you're a constituent and/or voted for, you might want to let her know that also).
