War on Iraq costs San Franciscans $279 Million Dollars

by jane q public
San Francisco's tab for the war on Iraq: $279,200,000 and San Jose, $378,700,000
The Cost of War with Iraq
Using a figure of $100 billion for an estimate of how much U.S. taxpayers would have to pay for a war with Iraq, NPP has calculated the cost taxpayers of each state and some selected cities will end up paying.

To see our factsheets on costs to each state go to: Costs to the States.

For costs to selected cities in some states go to: Costs to Selected Cities.

For costs to selected cities in Massachusetts go to: Costs to Selected Cities in Massachusetts.

If you want to find out if your town/city has voted against going to war with Iraq, or if you want your town/city council to vote against an Iraq invasion and would like some "how to" information, go to: Cities for Peace.

To see the methodology we used to calculate the cost of the war with Iraq, go to Methodology.

These links are live at the site. Shame on the Bush administration for destroying two countries at the same time.

you hear someone talking about how much money was spent trying to stop protestors attempting to stop and/or just draw attention to a war that wasn't fought for the reasons we were told, and had nothing to do with national security (other than the fact that we have a mafia-like racket among oil and related industries that block the development of alternative energies)

by henner
And this figure doesn't even include the millions of lost tourism revenue because war makes people feel crazy and want to stay at home, because the trickle down effect of the war will be continued loss of employment in education, art, health and most everything that humans care about and folks who lose jobs won't travel either, because Europeans and so many others are disgusted with the US invasion and occupation and some will choose not to visit SF this summer...

And the hotel and restaurant owners will blame it all on protesters and homeless folks.

"other than the fact that we have a mafia-like racket among oil and related industries that block the development of alternative energies"

Fact? Instead of just repeating the psychobabble you hear from your buddies why don't you take the time to do some research on this? Energy companies spend far more money on alternate energy research.
Far more money than whom?

Where's your proof?

You make a statement about how I make a statement that isn't backed-up with facts, but you best me still further by a statement that can't even be compared to anything.

Smooth.

Look, mainstream media sources cover the killing of technologies in the auto and oil industry. Just a few years ago, even Popular Mechanics put a big front cover story on this very issue.

How about the history with the auto and oil companies ganging up to squash alternative transportation networks. I grew up in Los Angeles, the car capitol of the country. It's documented fact that the auto and oil companies bought up all the assets of public transportation in LA in the 1940s and 50s and KILLED THE ENTIRE INFRASTRUCTURE. This infrastructure was on par with any system in the world. It was among the very best in the world. Gone. killed...........

Now, you want to talk about big-time corruption. How about the oil tax depletion allowance oil companies get, and all the other fucked-up things about our tax code and regulations that make it more favorable to auto companies to sell higher profit SUVs and such.

Look, I really don't come at this as a polemic. These are basic facts. But I'm really tired of trolls that toss out gotch-a questions like yours (even though the question you posed was not provable given lack of comparison). Maybe you're not a troll. Maybe you just get off on being bitchy and rude in your debates with people.

Chill out. Take a deep breath.
