4/23-Rally to Save Public Services and Jobs in San Francisco
SEIU Locals 250, 535, and 790 are holding a rally wednesday at City Hall as part of their campaign to achieve a balanced solution to the cities budget crisis.
On Wednesday, April 23rd, at 5pm in front of City Hall, SEIU Locals 250, 535, and 790 will be holding a rally in support of their efforts to acheive a fair and equitable solution to the cities current budget crisis. Currently the city of San Francisco has a deficit of $150 million. In an effort to close those gaps the city has asked all the unions with which it has contracts with to take a 7.5% pay reduction across the board. Meanwhile, as the city slashes pay and benefits for lower wage workers it has hired some 120 new employees in the past few months who make with salaries of at least $90,000 a year. Does that sound like justice to you?
SEIU Locals 250, 535, and 790 collectivelly represent the a largest amount of public workers in this city. They range from Nurses at Laguna Honda to workers at Parks and Rec to the 911 dispachers. The work that these men and women do is critical to people of this city. We all use the services that they provide.
Come out and show your support for the working men and women of this city.

MayDay demonstration and march Thursday, May 1st, 7PM--Gather at Berkeley BART, Center & Shattuck
May 1st is International Workers' Day, a day to celebrate resistance to capitalism. Working people today face layoffs, massive social cutbacks(especially in health care and education), evictions and homelessness, police repression, and endless war. This MAYDAY we seek to unify the struggles against capital's wars here and around the world. Together, we can turn our discontent into our power. Come to downtown Berkeley to demonstrate, speak out, and party for liberation.

Aw quit with your Anti-Capitalist crap!!
You should focus on better ways to protest without causing damage to this city or forcing the police to staff every demonstration with all of their forces.
Those actions caused major overtime to be paid out.
We would not be having a major deficit problem if the young middle -classed thugs who hid behind their stupid masks did not trash the city. Especially since they did not live here!
This caused the police to come out in force!
You all knew the money would have to come from somewhere..... Next time think!!!!

that would be slightly more convincing if places like Omaha, Nebraska weren't also facing severe cutbacks these days. but they are, so you should shut your ass up.

You, not I, are claiming that the cutbacks coming down the pike are due to street militancy and consequent burdens on government coffers. Omaha (hardly a hot-bed of radicalism) is facing huge cuts because capitalism is in crisis and the costs of its crisis are being shifted to the working class, as is always the case when profits are pinched. The same forces are at play in San Francisco.
Capiche?
