legal updates- 30+ detained at Chevron/Texaco HQ

by Hugs Thneed (punktoon [at] aol.com)
30+ activits detained at the action to shut down the Chevron/ Texaco Headquarters being held on tennis courts across the street from the oil giants' world corporate HQ
As of 10:30 this morning (4/14), over 30 activists were detained at the action to shut down the Chevron/ Texaco HQ in Walnut Creek. Those held include 3 members of the Twisted Sister Cluster who blocked one of the entances to the global headquarters by linking arms in lockboxes at appx 5:45am, and were apprehended shortly thereafter. Others were singled out by the police later in the morning either nabbed from the soft blockade at the gateway or taken at random from chanting protestors. Those taken away are being temporarily held accross the street from the HQ at a tennis court within a park. The San Francisco law team originally anticipated that those arrested would be taken immediately to the Martinez Facility [(925) 646-4494 or 4495] but at this point it is uncertain whether they will be quickly sited and released or packed into vans and shuttled off to another facility. Presently, no official 'arrests' have been made. The legal team is requesting that people who have legal information on those detained or legal updates on the situation get in touch with them at (415) 285-1011.

Just arrtived at a house to nap for a bit...

As of 1:50 on site: One entrance remains occupied by scores of protesters and a crew in lockdown, including a disabled car. Spirits are high but more people are needed. The people in lockdown are interested in staying throughout the business day, so if you can make, be there.

San Ramon is five miles north of Dublin/Pleasanton BART; and Chevron Texaco is on the Iron Horse bike trail... not clear how these connect at Dublin. For drivers, exit I680 at Bollinger Canyon and go east.

The spirit is great, even with an antagonistic flag-waving presence across the street.

See you there at the end, I hope.

the National Lawyers Guild is reporting the latest legal situation as the following. Over 40 pple have been arrested at the action and the majority of them have been sited and released (probably from the West County Jail, though this is not confirmed). Six of the arrested activists have been brought to the Martinez Facility [(925) 646-4494 or 4495], and are most likely participating in jail solidarity. The identities of those released and in Martinez are as yet unknown, so if there is information please report it to the NLG (415) 285-1011. Some of the sited and released demonstrators are heading over to the Martinez Facility right now. As of 2:30pm, the police started moving in on the remaining lockdowns at the corporate gate. They are expected to begin cutting those activists out and arresting them.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I havn't heard any mention of the pro war protestor violence across the street.

There was the typical booing and yelling when we walked across the street but later we we're confronted in the parking lot of Whole Foods. While I was meeting up with a friend at her car a kid yelled from across the parking lot and then threatened us with a few violent remarks about how he was going to beat us, kill us and how unamerican we are, my only remark back was (not sure if it was right to say) "angry words for a little white boy that has probally had everything handed to him his entire life). He came at me like he was going to start a fight then the friend I was meeting said a few things like don't say that stuff to my friend, he started pushing and hitting her then proceeded to break the wind shield and back window of her car. After calling the police he was chased across the parking lot by a group of people to hold him until police came. After he was stoped he proceed to fight with the group and either him or someone he joined up with grabbed a wine bottle out of a nearby dumpster and said he was going to cut them up and tried to break the bottle on the concrete, when he couldn't he swung and finally threw the bottle at them. At that time a friend of his pulled up in a brand new black Bronco with blacked out tinted windows (lic: 3SNW960) and drove him off. We most likely wouldn't have involved the police, my friend just didn't want to have to pay for the windows. We filed the police report to the 20 or so cops that showed up, kinda funny they twisted my arm in the typical painful detaining move because of a brief misunderstanding but after that I should mention they were actually were really nice and they say they were really working to keep the day peaceful and nonviolent and seemed to want to get the issue resolved.

Well this is a typical other side of the street person, I guess, just thought you would like to all be warned in the future.

thought i would add a quick description if you happen to be in the area again. white 5' 10" 140 curly brown hair- dark grey pants/black sweat shirt which he took off rite before he started swinging the bottle which revealed a tatoo of a naked woman draped in an american or texas flag. if you see him or the truck decribed above please report it to the san ramon pd, i don't want my friend getting stuck with the repair bills because some dumb ass looking for troble decided to choose her as a random target.

B,
It would only seem that way to a mentally challenged individual who is only able to process abstract thoughts as dualistic, black and white concepts. During the history of our species, no one has been able to live without using materials.

The relative amount of use is very important, because if people collectively used slowly renewable resources like wood at replacement rate, or burned hydrocarbons at a rate that didn't cause increase in CO2% and global warming, there wouldn't be a problem.
It's utterly stupid to say that anyone who uses anything made of plastic is equally as wasteful as a person using oil at 10X the world average.

I just heard that police sometimes targeted African American folks who were not intending to be arrested. I was told at least one person was arrested in this way, and others subsequently were forced to cross the street to get away from the threat of racist arrest. These were people walking about with other demonstrators who did not intend arrest -- unlike the people police were arresting, who were linking arms and sitting on the ground.

Get the word out if there is going to be a lawsuit, we may have video that is pertinent.
