Another case of SF States repression of the Palestinians

by an SF State student
In yet another case of repression of progressive students supporting the Palestinian cause. SF State students were met with a large contingent of police and adminstrators threatening legal action if we were to proceed dressing as soldiers and passing out literature about today's rally on campus. The event was to illustrate the realities of Israeli checkpoints and the daily experiences of Palestinians.

The main event is a rally in rememberacne of the Deir Yassin massacre of Palestinians and begins at 11 AM

SF State admininstration continues to behave on its pro-Israel bias and is taking it out on Palestinian student groups. The General Union of Palestinian Students was subjected to sanctions for incidents out of their control at events last year. The unequal treatment of student groups continues to be a problem here and will continue to be until the administration is put in its place.

Sorry for the hurried and inarticulated report. Please support radical students at SF State and their battle for due process.

Threats were made to the students excercising their freedom of speech at the top of campus. The original plan though scaled down went down under police survialence and harassment. Increasingly it seems that the University is resorting to police presence in lieu of dialogue with students.

The main event went off without incident (besides all the security meant to intimdate us)
by lets keep it cool
i agree that in part that the decisions of the current times and past are partly to blame. I do not condone violence done to civilizians by ANYONE be they Palestinian or Israeli. That said you need to have an analysis of power.
Who has the WMD, $$, and military backing of the United States?
It is plain to see who has the upper hand in this situation.

So, saying that checkpoints are justified (which i am not) because of Palestinian violence or potential violence or whatever. How about the destruction of homes, the right of return, or the economic aparthied. It is obvious that there are a lot of perspectives on this issue, but please lets not be reactionary.

The way i see it is as an attack of the powerful on the powerless,
But since we're very unlikely to reach a commonground i suggest we not waste Indymedia's bandwidth on this discussion..

You may find Jerusalem Calling by local author, Joel Shallit
an interesting read addressing the complexity of this issue from a progressive Jewish/Israeli perspective. Thanks for your time

balancing power is not an answer.
a balance of power between two peoples who hate each other is a situation where both sides think they can win and therefore beat each other until they are both dead.
what you need is UNbalanced power where one side decides that it should stop hitting the other one because it cant win .. and then the other side decides there is no point in attacking someone who is not attacking you - it just gives you that guilty feeling.
