M14 Protest: Boobies for Ashcroft!

by Will Doherty (wild [at] willdoherty.org)
Forty or so "Boobies for Ashcroft" marched from Van Ness Ave. to the Federal Building as employees left the building for the day around 5:00pm. The crowd bared their breasts as they chanted "Boobs Not Bombs" or "More Boobs in Public, Less Boobs in Office" and carried signs condemning U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft's policies including the war against drugs and against sexuality, noting particularly his decision to cover a barebreasted Lady Justice statue with curtains during news conferences at the U.S. Department of Justice building in Washington, DC. Following the march, the group entered a local pub and fraternized with federal employees while discussing the issues of the day.

Some months back we started an online project with this theme. If you have more pictures and would like to add them, please send them to us. The project is called "Operation Scare Ashcroft." It is a sister project of our "John Poindexter Awareness Office."

Those of you who want to taunt Ashcroft can do this from home as well. Just send us a digital photo.

...probably the only protester there who should have been topless.

I'd hit it.

I am a Disabled Veteran (Vietnam era) and I didn't care for that war either.. BUT, Damn it I support our President and his actions. You aholes should get a life and support our country or get the HELL out. PS: If your going to show Boobs, at least get some gals that aren't so ugly, or too fat or too skinny and with droopy, saggy, flabby tits. My 62 year old wife looks MUCH better than that bunch on this site.
by D W Crowley
Hmm.. thought people like you weren't interested in current events, much less literate. Nice to know there's always at least one idiot out there to ruin actual news posts.
I think it's fabulous what these women are doing... too bad for creeps like you that pornstars don't protest, a lot of women with large, perky fake breasts are lucky they are able to have a mind to feed themselves, much less show those perfect breasts for a cause.
by niklas
Being an American means having the right to my own opinion - just because he is the president doesn't make him right, and I'm not willing to blindly support anyone just because they were elected. Especially someone who goes against what the majority of American citizens are against without regard to what we want.

If you want to be a lemming, veteran or not, you have earned that right. But having a working, active brain and being willing to voice my opinion about it do NOT make me an ahole.

(Not that I am not one, mind you - just not for the ridiculous reasons you pointed out)

or did a post get pulled?

Funny, I always expected war veterans to be wise. I guess we see an exception here. Do you honestly think the point of all this is the looks of the women? If yes - and it's obvious you do - , go back to your glossy smut mags like Hustler, Penthouse, Playboy and other crap that exploits the female body.

How pathetic.
§?
by ?
And what is this, if not exploiting the female body?
by NamVet
To the previous vet: That's nice sir; as I recall you didn't *have* a choice as to whether you supported LBJ's war or not, they shipped you anyway. And you're welcome to show us your wife's "better" boobies, preferably with her holding a sign up that says "Didn't we make this mistake once before?"

And "?": There haven't been any new Boobies For Ashcroft pictures posted here or on OSA so unless you can get some cute peacenik to show their support and chests, looks like granola is what's for dinner (just spit out the pit hairs). Be part of the solution, don't just complain about the problem. :)
by Ashley
Well for someone who SEEMS to be knowledgeable and politically inclined you sure are lacking in comprehension of a protest. Do you think those women would be out there topless if they cared about your opinion of their bodies? They're making a point and they got attention. Congratulations on your wife, but do get a brain. I seriously doubt that your 'lashing out' against this protest or any anti-war business makes a difference to those involved. Maybe if you actually relaxed and voiced your opinion leaving your wife and her body out of it, someone will take you seriously one day. if not, too bad.

The gentleman is entitled to his opinion. It's a free country.

I'm sorry you are so angry that you think the persons who dissent should leave our country. Who else would you like to leave? Left-wingers? Stinky foreign types? Bad drivers?

I think President Bush is a Bible thumping, oil soaked, dishonest moron who is waging war for money and strictly domestic political reasons. And Ashcroft is about the same, but perhaps a tad smarter and more evil. It's my right as an American to say that too. Nah. You don't like it, move to Argentina. I'd like to think this is still a Democracy, though, and I don't think anyone needs to leave. I'm not.

As for the boobs, I think you missed the point. But it's nice to know your wife has a nice pair.

I just wanted to say that I mostly backed the president at first but then I thought what does sadam have to do with terrorism. He invaded Kuwait..... So.... What the fuck does that have to do with the US. NOTHING We have more weapons of mass destruction than anyone. So I say fuck the US gov't. Long live the people....

I'm all for exposed boobs for any reason, regardless of aesthetics. Just don't make me late for work. I have a war to support.

How soon we forgot 9/11.
by theaceofclubz
Is this really the best way to protest the war, public exhibitionism? Do they really think that by exposing their breasts in public they have changed the opinion of any war supporteror administration member? If anything they have exposed themselves for the fools they really are. The only credit I can give them is that they realized if they show their tits people will look. congrats
I love how a bunch of stupid chicks are willing to show their boobs in a futile effort to intimidate the attourney general. I got to see their boobs, and then I left to go do something for the next six seconds of not thinking about sex. I know that if I was a perve with no shame (which I could be, I dunno) I would use something stupid like Ashcrofts brain farts, and trick some middle aged porn star wanna' bes, and one hot chick, into showing their boobs in public. They should start a new protest. Butts for Baghdad.

What can I say? Boobs in the open are better than boobs in office. Keep it slammin.

by Jerry Greenberg (ajerrygreenberg [at] earthlink.net)
The the first nude protest I ever heard of was Lady Godiva, who rode through the streets of Coventry naked to protest some taxes . As far as our modern Lady Godivas running around in the altogether in San Francisco , of most of the girls in the pictures look pretty good, but frankly most women don't have figures that could really support nudity. Moreover, places like San Francisco tend to be chilly and foggy: that kind of stuff can invite pneumonia. (I guess I'm talking like a girl's father, now, which I am) it's not such a good idea . The protest would be a lot more effective down around Laguna Beach or places like that. Anyway best a luck to the bare breasted crowd; I sure hope they get your "points" across.
by Jerry Greenberg (ajerrygreenberg [at] earthlink.net)
Another thought just occurred to me, now that we're trying to drive the Nazi bastards out of their minds: get as many copies of the French national anthem, the Marseillaise as you can and any time in the Republicans or the Gestapo or Ashcroft or anyone who represents Ashcroft shows up, play it as loudly as possible; it'll drive the fools berserk . If they counter by coming in with John Philip Sousa's music then counter in the other direction by everyone linking arms and singing "we shall overcome . " we might be able to beat them on that front if nowhere else.

mr kevin,

i guess you like many other individuals inclosed within our borders seem to miss the point about everything. gee, if you had bothered to take the time to find out your information for yourself, then took the painfull time staking activity of forming your own opinion from those self gathered facts; you may find that even you might disagree with media cultivated tripe. first and foresmost your government lies, good old george and john do it on tv to the public almost everytime their on the tv. an example is that this war has nothing to do with 9/11 (saddam only supports palestinian resistance to illegal isreali encrouchment and not osama bin laden) and it has nothing to do with fighting for your freedom or liberty and if we are so concerned with the safety and liberty of the iraqi people then why are we not at arms with nigeria, seirra leone, north korea, isreal/palestine so and so fourth. and the whole idea of a 'pre-emptive' war is absurd, because with that logic then north korea should start dropping bombs on the us right now. cause we may just do it to them sometime soon. i would like now to take the opportunity to say that those that protest the war are not pro-saddam and many think, like i, that we screwed up the first time by not ending his regime altogether, and i personnally would mind watching a man like him be disposed from power much like our own court appointed war pig.
i am glad that you exorise your democratic right to voice your own opinion but the your terrorism you should fear most is coming from the growing anti-american sediment spawing accross the globe as i write.

no one is save anymore.
period.

evolving? perhaps your grammer and use of the english language could use some evolving. Btw, everyone, this protest isnt about the war in Iraq. lol

I am appalled at the growing number of anti-American activists......IN OUR OWN COUNTRY! How absurd and how appalling it is to see American citizens (I cringe to call them that) burning the flag that has protected their shallow views for years. Who are you to listen to high school and college dropouts making ungodly livings pretending to be other people (actors and musicians)? Of the rediculous amount of people protesting, few of them actually have legitimate arguments as to why we should not be at war. Most say things along the lines of "give diplomacy a chance." Last I checked, 12 years of U.N.-successful diplomacy has gotten us nowhere. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean you have a legitimate reason to call people names. I have a feeling that the public servants in office have a little more experience at guiding policy than you and your has-been actors. If you don't like the war, FINE. If you don't like the public figures in office, FINE. However, slanderous remarks only highlight YOUR feeble minds and arguments, not the President's. I don't want war any more than you do, but the difference between you and I is that I recognize the neccessity in supporting the people doing the job that you are too inadequate to do yourself. Besides, I don't remember a single person protesting Clinton's attacks on Iraq or Libya. Nor did anyone protest sending troops to Somalia or Kosovo. PROTEST WAR...unless a Democrat starts it, Right? You sicken me you bunch of Hypocrites! GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY, OUR TROOPS, AND OUR PRESIDENT. Lord knows, I don't want their jobs. I've already been there and done one of them.

Im sorry but I find this to be absolutely disgusting. What ever happened to morals? These women obviously lack such. You can get your point across without having to show your body parts. Then women wonder why they are treated poorly by men because why should men give a crap when women could careless either. If you are so anti-war then I suggest you all take a plane to iraq and stand on the iraqi side. Im sure our government would be glad to ship you there since all of you lack what is is called RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Then while your there go ahead and flaunt your bodies and see how quick you are executed. Also, Maybe I should go out and stand next to you hippy liberals with signs of aborted babies that are killed and slaughtered everyday thanks to YOU....

People are doing it to get attention. There are a couple of different reasons why people protest things. One is to stand up for a cause they truly believe in, whether or not it makes a difference, because they believe that even one really does make a difference. Another is to follow a trend. To be cool. To do the next neat thing. I think that's what this crowd is doing. They saw a hip little slogan and found a reason to expose themselves and their skinny vegan trendy selves for people to see, photograph and publish online and have people comment with things like "I'd hit that." It's shameless self-promotion. (Hey fake flag sticker patriots, that goes for you too.) And if you consider everyone that is against the war to be anti-American and can't come up with good reasons besides "give diplomacy a chance" then you need to get out of Florida. Or at least read a little bit more. I know the media is saturated with pro-war drivel that they are told to drill into your brain until you believe the hype as truth, but don't believe the television. It's not God. Seek out international media and try to view the conflict from all angles. Zoom in to the little picture, the individuals affected. The military families hoping their son comes home alive. The Iraqi mother who wants to get out of Baghdad because it's being bombed, has received the leaflet to evacuate but has nowhere to go. "There's no such thing as a government. It's just people ruling over people. People jerking around people." (*KRS-One) People have their reasons and their motivations for everything, but it is a broad stroke of the brush to label people who are against a nation acting as an international bully in the face of world opposition just because another nation might bother them someday as anti-American. In fact, labeling them as such is anti-American in and of itself. America is a country that ends wars. Not one that goes around picking fights. America is a country that lends humanitarian aid. Not one that gives more money to a country in the war budget (Israel) that is not even a nation in the "Coalition of the Willing" than is being spent to rebuild Iraq after the war. It's anti-American to want to hurt others for the good of the power elite in the false hope of national security. Will we really be safe if we topple Iraq?
by SmartMan (SmartMan [at] Hotmail.com)
I find it hard to believe that educated people actually think that taking their clothes off will stop a war. It's not sick, it's not sad, it's not even dilusional, it's just STUPID.
by Boo Bee
SmartMan: You may not think it very bright, but it does get attention (not necessarily from whom it needs to though) and it's easy on the eyes. Wouldn't you rather be watching boobs wobble than boobs dictate a war?

Seems you can have both, if you play your cards right since we were dealt the less pretty thing...

by A "thinking" Vet
A "true" Patriot supports his country and it's Constitution, and not necessarily it's government.

If the government abuses the "rights" of it's citizens, blatantly violates national and international law and becomes, in effect, the client of a foriegn state. Then the government MUST be replaced!

If, "legal" means are no longer effective in restoring the government to an organ of the people - then, it is the MORAL OBLIGATION of EVERY CITIZEN to actively oppose the 'government' with every fiber of their existance until said government reflects the image of it's citizens, anything less is treason.
by David
Criticizing "President" Bush isn't "anti-American," and it isn't "attacking America:" it is every citizen's DUTY to do so.

A patriot will readily and eagerly criticize her or his government when it is evil, corrupt, and infamous; refusing to do so is treason. It is the duty of every citizen to criticize, censure and scourge the political fiends who pretend to serve the public when those villainous brutes serve only tyranny, greed, hatred, and prejudice.

I am told that one must not criticize the demon currently in the Oval Office of the White House. "United we stand," my critics say: "We must present to our enemies the appearance of solidarity, least our enemies perceive discord as weakness." Poppycock! This is equal to insisting that one ignore a burning house while our lungs fill with carbon monoxide and the flaming roof falls down upon our heads. Surely it is the duty of every awake occupant to yell "The house is on fire!" to awaken those who slumber within. A dog would do no less.

Cowards cheer what heroes execrate. I choose to anathematize the diablerie systemic within American government.

by an insult to woman-kind Friday June 20, 2003 at 02:11 PM

<i>his is an insult to those who have fought for woman's rights over the last hundred years. you have set the cause back immeasurably with this little stunt</i>

You know what substansive difference there is between a patriarch telling you who you must show your tits and a matriarch saying you can't?

Not a damn thing.

The only part of feminism worth supporting is the essential, the right to say no to authoritarian dictates that benifit others at the expense of the individual's liberty. The idea that individual liberties may NOT be restricted for the convenience or comfort of any majoritarian view.

In other words, a woman has an individual right to say yes OR no. Either way. And, indeed, so do I.

That is what Liberty is all about.

In this case, these women were exploioting their secondary sexual charactoristics - and some very nice ones they are, overall - to make a point OTHER than the usual.

This does two very useful things FOR women; first, it gets LOTS of attention. It sparks public debate. Hell, YOU commented, and I suspect normally you'd just sniff and ignore such things, along with many others who've chimed in on either side.

But notice - aside from a few knuckle-dragging trogs, everyone on both sides realized that in THIS case, tits were being exposed to make a political statement.

And that is a skullbuster. That nudity can mean something more than "I'm a bimbo, do me now, you big strong thing!"

Tits can be PROTECTED SPEECH! Nudity can say more than one thing! Goodness, what could be next - the realization that "talking about sex" doesn't mean "stuff that teenage boys wank off to" by definition?

This is what we on the front lines of the push to greater individual liberties call "empowerment."

Of course that pretty girl with the gamin grin and the gleefully obscene poster is "exploiting her sexuality." It's her sexuality, and she's exploiting it - rather than someone else. <i>Honi Soit Qui Mal y Pense!"</i>

But for that matter, my dear, if a woman chooses to give over her sexuality to be exploited by another, for whatever reasons or compensation or solice she deems worthy, that TOO is her right, just as it's her right to change her mind about it later.

I note that those men and women who object the most to others "degrading their sexuality" are those least likely to get laid on Saturday night. :>

Of course that pretty girl with the gamin grin and the gleefully obscene poster is "exploiting her sexuality." one doughnut at a time

this is silly, and kind of sad attempt for her to get some attention. (also needs to go on a diet)would pass for bad porno circa 1930's but just goes to show the lack of ability of
